staring spells

I have been having staring spells all my life. And lately after the "stare" I will have a "duh" moment. Usually my stare is just a "stare". But now after I stare at something, afterwards I will be dazed and confused for about 15 minutes. And I have had "duh" moments after my severe Absence's. So I thought this was an apprpriate place to ask.

Today, I was staring at the dog. Notice, I didnt know I was staring. But then I notice that I am staring, and I have been staring with my tongue sticking out of my mouth. I dont remember sticking my tongue out initially. I have no idea how long I actually stared, but I did feel a time lapse.

My parents notice my "stares". They say when I have them I am completely still, I dont blink, and my eyes look empty. My eyes look empty to them when I am daydreaming too (Mckeys World). But when I daydream I am oviously indulged in thought. While during my staring spells its as if I am completely void of thought for a few seconds.

I dont remember blacking out. I just remember that I notice that I am staring and sitting completely still.

How can you tell if you black out?

Maybe I dont black out, maybe I just stare with void of thought being completely still without blinking. Maybe?

questions about psychogenic seizures

After a normal eeg and mri, as well as normal blood work a nurse practitioner diagnosed me with psychogenic seizures. I was offended at first but its growing on me. But there are a few things that I dont understand. Like stress usually causes psychogenic seizures right? Well I have had these episodes since I was 14 and they were on a regular basis. And Im not stressed on a regular basis. And my general question is, can psychogenic seizures be caused by what causes real seizures? Like light. I cant watch tv with the lights off, or for too long with the lights on. And when I am on the computer longer than 2 hours it is a sure bet that I will have a SP or a couple of peiti mals in a row. And movie theatres, I feel dissocited and shakey for hours after watching a movie in a movie theatre.

Just curious.

I understand that psychogenic and real seizures are treated the same. And I am being medicated with 300mg of Limictal a day. So Im just going along with everything at the moment.

Thanks.

when did you get diagnosed?

so i'm just wondering, being newly diagnosed and close to my 30s, when most of you guys/gals were diagnosed with epilepsy and how many seizures you've had.

i had my first one when i was 21ish and then nothing for years and then BOOM 4-5 more all within the last year, but that's it.

can epilepsy come on so much later in life? aren't you typically born with it?

just curious...

had another seizure last night

ok so here's the skinny. last night i was filling and preparing bottles when i got that "oh shit i'd better lay down" feeling because i knew i was going to pass out. the next thing i remember i am on the couch (not the kitchen) and DH and my mom were standing in front of me telling me that i just had a seizure and that we had to go to the hospital. oh what fun. i was completely out of it, my head hurt and i bit my tongue, not to mention this huge ass bruise on my right shoulder. the doctors took blood and did a urine analysis and came up with nothing. they told me that the cymbalta i started taking for PPD might have been the culpurit and to stop taking it immediately, so i have. HOWEVER, this does NOT explain the previous 5 seizures that i have had.

i've been tested for epilepsy and the nuerologist came up with nothing. we did the at home 3 day EEG and everything, still nothing. my brain waves are normal. nevertheless i go back to see him, the neurologist, next thursday to see what the hell might be going on.

but i'm just curious, do any of you have any ideas??? my blood pressure was 150 over 86 when DH took it immediately after i seized.

i'm just at a loss. :/
