I just tried to upgrade the server OS to the newest stable version of Debian.  MySQL didn't want to restart following the upgrade so I reverted the server to a backup I made immediately before the upgrade.

 

I don't know why the upgrade failed, but troubleshooting it might require several hours of downtime.  I figured I should revert to a backup and give people some warning rather than working on it tonight.   If my brain is cooperative, I'll give it another shot tomorrow night.   I'll limit any downtime to after midnight CST (GMT -6).

However, mods and admins are not automatically shown private blog content.  They are shown a blank screen with the option to click through to the blog content if they choose to do so. Even if we don't click through, we will still show as visitors, although we may have read nothing. If you have seen moderators on your recent visitors list, this is likely what happened.  We apologize for any confusion that this may have caused - we were unaware of the change until recently.

 

If you have a private blog and there are moderators/admins that you wish to have access, please PM those moderators and admins and tell them so.

 

As always, we respect our users' privacy, and moderators will not click through to any private club or private blog entries unless the owner has given us explicit permission to do so.

 

The permissions for regular members have not changed.  Regular members are still unable to view any content from private club and private blogs.

 

If you have seen a user called "Tech Support" on your blog, that is the name that VE gave to the IP.board staff for troubleshooting - that is just them trying to fix the glitches we have been having with our blogs.
