Because of the upgrade some of the "smileys" are animated now. If you don't want to see the "smileys" here's how you turn that feature off in your profile:

Here are the instructions for turning off the smilies

1. Click on "My Controls" at the top of the page to go to your control panel

2. Scroll down until you see the "options" category on the left side

3. Look for "Board Settings" (should be the 6th one down) and click on that

4. Now scroll down until you see the "Board Display Settings" category in the middle of the page

5. Look for "Do you wish to view images in posts, such as smilies and posted images?" and there should be a drop down menu for "yes" and "no". Select "no".

6. Scroll down and click on the "Change My Account Options" button.

That's it. No more smileys. It will leave a text link for any "smileys" that are used in a post. Just in case you want to see what it is. Most have a descriptive enough name that you'll know which one it is.

However, if you disable smileys it will also disable any posted images that AREN'T posted as an attachment. It will leave a text link for you to click on in order to see those.

It's a small price to pay (for me) to not have to deal with the "smiley" issue.
I may make a visual "how to" at some later date if there is a need for it.

If the animated smileys bother you in the side panel menu of the "reply to post" page or "posting a new topic" page then you can click on the "Toggle Side Panel" button to collapse that. Everything that was there is accessible in the top menu above the text panel where you're posting.

If you decide that you need it during your post (or at some later date) you can click on the same button to toggle the side panel menu back into view.

In firefox, if you go to about:config and change image:animation_mode to none, it will disable animated gifs webwide. You'll still see them, they just won't move.

Sorry, I'd post more stuff like this but I assume that everyone is like me and clicks on everything to see what it does.

i didn't even know about:config existed.

some people (not me, i click on a lot but don't necessarily find everything) don't click on anything for fear of making Something Bad happen.

"So it is."
"And freezing."
"Is it?"
"Yes," said Eeyore. "However," he said, brightening up a little, "we haven't had an earthquake lately."

What I can't figure out is how to use the emoticons in a post. I tried dragging them and that wasn't it. If there's a help link, I'm not seeing it.

All you have to do is click on them, give them a moment to show up and that should be it.
