argh.

insurance won't pay without my pdoc saying it's okay to prescribe the kiddie dose to me even though I'm over 18.

at least I tried to get it refilled early.

dammit.

So, is there a special form or something that you have to have filled out or what does your doctor need to do?

He needs to call them on the phone. So it shouldn't be too bad.

That's insane.

Are they going to require this every month? Like maybe the hand-written prescription wouldn't be a hint?

Considering the usual reason for an Adderall prescription I hesitate suggesting that you ask the Dr. to prescribe the 10mg generic and just split the dose. It's not that it's difficult, it's just that it kind of ends up not getting done some days.

I hope the call is a one-time thing. The 5mg I have are time-release with the little balls inside (and a nifty clear window so you can see them, too). Do you know if the 10mg has that problem? Or maybe it's so you can dump it in applesauce for the kids. I'm good enough with setting routines that I would be able to split the dose regularly if it's just cutting something in half but dividing up the little balls would be kind of annoying.

The 10mg time-release is also the little balls in a capsule. That's probably the easiest packaging to (not have to?) license for time-release. And, also, you can sprinkle it on or into ice cream, applesauce, cereal, PB&J. The generic standard-release is sweet, chalky, and starts dissolving fast. It's also scored for a pill-cutter.

Splitting the time-release can be done with gelcaps - eyeball in a 50-50 split and put half in another gelcap, or dump the half you're supposed to take into your own cereal and you won't need extra gels. The time-release action comes almost entirely from the bead coatings.

But, it's annoying either way, especially before the morning caffeine fix hits. My bet, and if anyone's seeing an ADD specialist it would be fun to ask, is that this is a sure-fire way to have ADD adults skip doses.

No way to get it before he gets back from vacation on Monday, apparently. ): Other pdoc can't call to authorize, my pdoc doesn't have the forms he needs to authorize, no point in mailing, and even though I'm going up there for the weekend I'm not getting there till after the office closes.
