(I swear I did a search on this topic but I didn't find exactly what I looking for)
Anybody with no thyroid problems ever taken Cytomel? I have totally normal thyroid levels (not even low normal), but my pdoc is starting me on a low dose of Cytomel (10 mg) to see if I can get a better antidepressant response. Anybody have success with this approach? Any side effects to watch out for (I tend to have bizarre reactions to meds)?

Many years ago I was prescribed Cytomel along with my anti deppressent called Desipramime. I was on Cytomel for 6 months starting off on a low dose 25mcg then it was up to 75mcg daily. I didn't really see a difference in my deppression (but I was also going through a tough time in life ) But I lost 45 pounds on it. I was told by the GP that my weight would drop off and it did.

Cytomel as monotherapy for depression in someone with 100% normal thyroid function: kind of marginal. Actually, really marginal.
Side effects would be all the signs of hyperthyroidism, including rapid heart rate (tachycardia), anxiety/agitation, sleeplessness, tremor, and, ironically enough and paradoxically, depression. And, yes, for some, weight loss - and it's not worth it. Because then you're also looking at atrial flutter/atrial fibrillation and lotsa other fun stuff.
I'm mainly adding this for anyone who stumbles upon this thinking, "Ooh, I can take Cytomel and lose lots of weight." Bad Idea. The abuse of thyroid medication for weight loss has been going on for a very long time with very bad results.
Cytomel as an adjunct treatment in subclinical hypothyroidism, or as an adjunct to other antidepressant treatment - that is a different story.

Bipolar I, other stuff

I'm already off it. I think I went hyperthyroid because I had horrible anxiety and some bad tachycardia (resting heart rate 130 bpm). Yeah - don't take it for weight loss!
