so ive been taking zoloft for about three weeks now, and it has made me dead tired. seriously, i think it works by making you too tired to care about anything but sleep. im getting enough sleep, but im still walking around like a zombie. is this normal? i really hope it is, i really want to call my doctor and ask her about it. i guess i just wanted to know if anyone else has had this experience with zoloft or not.

I think everyone has this experience with one med or another at some point. Zoloft, for me, was way too activating and I couldn't sleep or function, or anything, that's why it's on my EX RX list. I'd say it's worth a call to the doctor. When I was on Effexor, I was needing a nap every single day, that made me too tired, fall asleep early as hell at night and couldn't keep my eyes open during the day, AND it wasn't adressing my issues, so I went off that. Extra coffee helped the tiredness shit some, but not enough.

Is the Zoloft helping you at all? There's other drugs out there, if this one isn't cutting it AND is making you drowsy and apathetic, I think it's worth a call to p-doc over.

Good luck.
What the docs wrote down about my Crazy: GAD, Social Phobia, Panic Disorder, "Mood issues"
The pills they give me to fix this shit: Bupropion XL 150mg, Clonazepam 1mg 3x per day
Pills that did NOT fix this shit: Sertraline, Buspirone, Mirtazipine, Paroxetine, Gabapentin, Effexor XR, Lorazepam, Fluoxetine, Cymbalta, Can't afford Seroquel, Zolpidem

honestly, it only helps a little. some days are better than others. my doctor actually thinks i may be bipolar since i usally go from being extremly happy to extremly depressed, but she wants me to talk to someone who specializes in that type of stuff before she'll put me on any of those, b/c she says she doesn't really have a lot of experience with it.

So you're not seeing a pdoc? Getting your meds from a gdoc? That's not always a bad thing but yeah, if it goes beyond garden variety depression it's usually best to see a specialist.

Sorry. I'm just so used to using them. Just so you know a tdoc is a therapist. The doctor you go to for talk therapy.

Yeah, you need to ask for a referral to a psychiatrist. The fact that your current doc suspects bipolar and prescribed Zoloft illustrates why. Many folks with BP find that to cause problems with mania. You need a doctor well versed who can diagnose your problems, and prescribe the appropriate meds. This is no slight on your current doc, it's just outside the realm of what he does. You wouldn't see a pediatrician for cancer, they'd refer you to an oncologist, and generally, you should see a family practice doc for mental health. <BR>You need an accurate diagnosis, first and foremost, before you can really begin treating the problem. Otherwise, some of the medications could end up creating more harm than good. In the meantime, can you try taking your Zoloft before bed? That generally helps with some of the drowsiness, as you can sleep it off. When I took SSRIs, I always had to take them before bed because of the multitude of side-effects.
