The doc and I have decided to change from Zyprexa to Risperdal.

I just want to hear positive stories of anyone out there who is maybe suffering from severe psychosis and has had success on risperdal - ont as a mood stabiliser or anything else - just for psychosis

that would be great thanks.

The first antipyschotic I took was Respiradone and I guess it worked quite well on the psychosis, depression and mood swings on it's own. I only gained about 4lbs on it. I was extremely cautious as this was the first psych med I took, I was scared I'd gain huge amounts of weight and with my eating issues I really couldn't cope with that. 4lbs was an acceptable compromise for me. I would have stayed on Rispiradone but the only problem I found with it was that it caused pressure in my eyes to build up, I felt like my eyes were going to explode. I felt like that for a month, considering going to an optician because I thought there was something seriously wrong with me eyes before I made the connection between taking the drug and my eyes becoming bad. Other than that it was a pretty good drug.

I don't agree with how it was prescribed in my clinic, they all had " Rispiradone/Resperdal" coffee mugs on their desk what I thought was pretty fucking shocking to know that no matter what that's what they were going to prescribe. And I know this because an ex-friend of mine who I found out who goes to the same place as me their first drug was Rispiradone for bipolar disorder. He's gained tons of weight and is having lots of heart problems because of it. I only took 0.5mgs and I could hack it. This guy's on I believe 6-8mgs and his doctor won't let him change. I met his doctor once, told me there was nothing wrong with me. Two others doctors and a therapist, psychologist and a GP disagree with that. But whatever.

Goodluck on Rispiradone Blackbird.
Diagnosis: " Psychotic disorder: Manic and depressive mood swings with psychosis" Anxiety and depersonalisation.
Current medications: Abilify 10mg, Cipralex 10mg, Epilim Chorno (Sodium Valproate/Depacon/So many names) currently titrating.
Old Medication: Zyprexa 5mg, Rispiradone 0.5mg, Buspar 10mg,Sanomigran 0.5mg, 7.5mg Zimovane,10mg Amytrptyline, Sumatriptan, 5mg Neoclarityn (Pollen allergy) Axid 10mg(GERD)
Currently: Not getting on with the psychiatrist (bitch). Also pretty much being forced out of my home because "no one can cope".

I have been on risperidone for a few years. I was on Zyprexa which did nothing for my psychotic symptoms but give me TD. I also tried amisulperide, and that was it for the anti psychotics I tried. Risperidone has been the magic bullet for me.

I have gained some weight, but it was negligable compared to what I gained on Zyprexa. To begin with, I felt absolutely sedated and zombified, and at first that was worrying. Within a fortnight that has worn off. To be honest, being distressed because of psychosis is so exhausting, I am not surprised we crash when we take an AP that works on the symptoms. If you can get past those two weeks, it's much better.

I now take it and hold down a full time job and a house, so it's possible to function at a high level and take it, it doesn't have any disabling side effects for me. I have been on and off it as my symptoms improved and return due to stress, and I take a higher dose PRN in difficult circumstances.

I think my experience with it has been overwhelmingly positive.

ETA it does have amazing mood stabilising properties. It kicks ass with my depression.

I was on 4mg of risperidone for psychosis induced by prednisone. I was only on it for 2 months, but it did it's job. If I did have any side effects I didn't notice because I wasn't in roid rage and that was fine by me.
