Research recruitment policy

Sometimes students or researchers want to recruit participants at Crazyboards. Because mental illness sometimes impairs judgment and because some of our members are easily triggered by sensitive topics, we have a vetting policy for recruitment requests. This policy is designed to make sure your research has been properly reviewed, that you treat potential participants with sensitivity and respect, and that if participants report adverse events or other complaints, we or they can contact a responsible party.

Our research recruitment policy:

You may post a recruitment request on the boards if you have approval from an administrator/moderator. If you post without approval, your post will be removed until it has been vetted. You may never contact any member privately unless they have explicitly given you permission to do so.

To request approval, register for an account and private-message the following to our admins:

Your consent form and debriefing form. If you are a student, the consent form must include contact information for your professor or advisor.
A brief description of who you are (e.g., college student, university professor, industry researcher) and what you intend to do with the results of the study (e.g., course paper, publication).
The study’s contents. If it is a questionnaire study, please send the questionnaires or a link to the website (indicate how we can identify our data so you'll know it was from a test run). If your study involves any treatment or experimental manipulation, please also send a description of the protocol. A copy of your IRB (or relevant ethics board) application is fine.
The recruitment blurb you want to post and where you want to post it.
A copy of your IRB or ethics review board notification of approval, including contact information for the person whom we would contact with questions. If your study does not require board approval, please send us a link or forward us an email from your review board and/or your instructor explaining this policy.
Your commitment to send us and any participants who ask a copy of the results (e.g. your term paper, powerpoint presentation, etc), as long as this would not violate confidentiality for any participants. An early summary of the results is preferable to waiting until you have a manuscript accepted for publication.
