I learned yesterday of the death of Loretta (aka Toledo). I lured her to CB after treating her in the county jail. She had been arrested for a DUI and her treatment history got her referred to me. Treatment-ready BPD is a rare event in jail and our sessions were nothing if not lively. She was an out-of-state'er so I could not follow her for aftercare. But I did refer her to her local CMH. She was just getting established with her treatment team when she landed in the hospital following a relapse. She came out much stronger and determined to turn her life in a better direction. We maintained regular correspondance during this brief time. I tried long and hard to encourage her to post here, but I believe she only ever showed up in Chat. She went silent for a week (very unlike her!) so I Googled her name and up came a link to her obituary. Cause of death was listed as a fatal seizure. I was deeply saddened by this news. Another bright flame extinguished far too soon. I pray that she can rest in peace.

I have come across her in chat somewhat frequently. I can't say I knew her very well, but this news is saddening nonetheless. The death of an acquaintance, or someone you you come across regularly, definitely has an effect, even when you don't know much about the person at all. It makes one remember the saying "Here today, gone tomorrow".

Rest in peace Toledo.

I hope that you will be ok vanderk: Treating her, knowing her, corresponding with her while hearing about her desire to turn her life around, and then learning about her tragic sudden death will probably be fuel for depression, or, at the least, grief. Don't be afraid to get help for yourself if you need to (assuming you don't already see someone), even if it's just for a couple of meetings to deal with your feelings in regards to her passing.

Yeah, she was one of our chat room folks.

*sigh*

Thanks for the update, vanderk.

Sad. I don't think she ever got a break.
Hope her next incarnation's easier.

Well, you can take some solace that you were helping her improve her life even if it was for a short time.

Condolences, a.m.
