I decided that I would rather focus on the Psychology field than a medical field (chemistry just isn't my thing >.>). Now that my schedule will be MUCH freer in the next couple of years, I'm wondering if I should try to pursue a minor in Computer Science.

Pros
  • Looks good on resume
  • Would allow me to further my hobby of programming
  • Would help in almost any field
Cons
  • More work involved, along with all kinds of schedule shifts
  • Would be harder to do honor's program in Psych due to extra work

Dx: Schizoaffective Disorder (Bipolar Type), OCD, Anxiety
Rx: Lamictal 200mg, Seroquel 400mg, Klonopin 1mg prn

Go for it -- it's not that much extra work. I mean, you're gonna be taking other classes anyway, whether they are organized into a minor or not.

I say try a few classes but don't commit. That way, you'll find out if it's all fun and GPA candy or a miserable chore that you come to hate.

A wreck in progress.

I say go for it.... on the minor.

Am I the only one who got COMPLETELY the wrong idea with the title? Have sex with a kid? What? I was like super relieved to read the body of the post.

Apologies, I am kinda punchy today.

I thought the same thing until I read it. I thought somebody was struggling with pedophilic urges. I didn't notice what board it was posted on.

I took a programming class that is part of the minor/major requirements, and I loved it. I also got a good grade in it. I already have a lot of experience with programming, as well as other things dealing with peripherals.

Nope, it wasn't just you.

When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? Perhaps to be too practical is madness. To surrender dreams - this may be madness. To seek treasure where there is only trash. Too much sanity may be madness. And maddest of all, to see life as it is and not as it should be.

Almost all BA and BS programs require you to have a minor in something or another. Check with your adviser.

De-gnosis: ADD, recurrent depression (or maybe bpII in the guise of such), Asperger's, OCD, social anxiety
Today's Pill Menu: Dexedrine, Wellbutrin (Budeprion), Strattera, Celexa, Risperdal, and clonazepam

Dude, you've developed your own goddamn PHP framework... and documented it :-/ Wouldn't it be nice to get recognition for something you're already good at? I'd say go for it.
Haven't been given solid diagnoses. I get paranoid / depressive / anxious
Dissociate a few times day, feels like I'm stoned or in a movie...mind goes blank.

Rx: Solian 200mg twice daily (amisulpuride), Citalopram 60mg, Clonazepam 2mg, Thyroxine 50

Past Meds: Epilim, lamictal, ritalin

Don't get a B.S. in Psych unless you're planning to get a Ph.D (or go to law school). A B.S. in Psych qualifies you for . . . pretty much nothing (at least anything that pays). A comp. sci. minor doesn't really go with it - what value does it add to psych? Maybe something like a biology minor.

A better idea is to get a B.S. in comp. sci. with a psych minor. You can get a job with the comp. sci.; your employer won't care about the minor. Odd, isn't it - it works one way, but not the other.

Really? It was not required where I was or where anyone I know was.

I had one, though. In computer science, coincidentally.

The closest thing I can think of is that some of your requirements may be in a different field. Like bio tends to require 4 semesters of chemistry (2 general and 2 organic). It's probably really easy to do a chemistry minor as a bio major because your major takes care of most of your minor requirements...
The Relevant Basics:

Diagnosis - Depression
Current psych meds - sertraline; zolpidem PRN

I'm doing a B.A. in Psychology, though I do plan on graduate school.

I personally believe liberal arts colleges are designed to train you how to think rigorously, not to just substitute for vocational school (which have their place, but s/he is not enrolled in one). What if Swamp56 minored in a "hot" field that fizzles out? That happened with Japanese History and Lit in the 80s. Remember when Japan is Number One was a best seller? Not many people do.

You are going to have a zillion different jobs in your life. Develop your critical thinking skills using something you are interested in studying, don't worry about whether or not you are marketable with a BA.

But if you minor CS, the Silicon Valley is currently snapping up bio-informatics specialists. Again, this most likely will no longer be true by the time you enter the job market, but fyi.

We were not required to minor in anything either. We did have Gen Ed requirements, but they didn't have to follow a particular thread.

Must have been. I don't have to minor in anything anyway. Neither do any of my friends at other university's.
