So, just got back from the pdoc's with samples for 30mg Cymbalta. I am already taking 50mg Paxil for severe OCD, and he thought that the Paxil wasn't doing enough for my norepinephrine(?). Has anyone else here taken a combo of paxil + cymbalta or something similar with multiple AD's? Any side effects or other symptoms I should look out for? I hope this does something for my OCD.
Dx: Severe OCD (with poor insight), Trichotillomania, GAD, Schizoaffective Disorder (Depressive type);
Current Rx meds: Prozac 80mg, Geodon 240mg, Cogentin 1mg, Klonopin 0.5mg 4 X daily, Trazodone 50mg - 100mg nightly;
Ex-Rx and OTC meds: Cymbalta 120mg, Paxil 20mg, Abilify 5mg, Zyprexa 2.5mg, Ativan 0.5mg 3 X daily, Inositol, GABA;
How I'm doing: Feeling great! Almost in remission for both OCD and Schizoaffective Disorder. Still struggling with general anxiety, however.

Hey you! :) How have you been? Did you end up going to the hospital? I haven't seen you around in a few days and I'm wondering how you're doing.

I will write you a note about it so I don't dominate your post; you probably want replies about Paxil/Cymbalta still :)

Paxil and Cymbalta both do serotonin reuptake inhibition. since you're on a fairly high paxil dose there might be some risk of serotonin syndrome when combining it with Cymbalta unless the plan is to taper off the paxil fairly soon after starting the Cymbalta. Be aware of the signs of serotonin syndrome so you can get yourself to the ER if that happens.

That is scary. I wonder why he gave it to you then. Maybe it'll be okay, I'm sure he knows about serotonin syndrome and stuff. Btw I wrote you :)

Just want to pipe in that I was on both meds at the same time at around the same cumulative dose and didn't have a problem with Serotonin Syndrome. So definitely be on the lookout for it, but don't assume that you'll get it either.

Thanks. I think my pdoc believes that I'm getting slightly manic though. I'm currently on Paxil 20mg and Cymbalta 60mg. I want to go up to 90mg on the Cymbalta. I really don't care what he does with the Paxil.

I'm not sure why he'd give you more SSRIs if there's a chance of you being manic, unless he's also raising your mood stabilizers.

Serotonin syndrome is something to keep an eye on definitely, but it's not guaranteed.

Well, he's added Geodon and it's going up soon. I'm pretty sure that Geodon is anti-manic.

I need high doses of SSRI's b/c of my OCD, so I guess I may have to risk mania for now. My OCD is pure hell, worse than my other conditions even.
