Hi,

I've been taking 300 mg trazodone for about three weeks. I'm beginning to lose hope on this drug.

Firstly, I have reacted very badly to a variety of drugs. The list of things I can try now is very short. After the traz, all that's left are MAOIs and my pdoc doesn't want to presribe them.

I take it at night. I can't get past 300 mg. Any more and I get sick. Right now I sleep for 10-12 hours. I get nauseous when I take it. I've always had a hard time falling asleep and waking up but now it's worse.

I don't know what to do.

And cut away our tongue.
The age demanded that we flow
And hammered in the bung.
The age demanded that we dance
And jammed us into iron pants.
And in the end the age was handed
The sort of shit that it demanded.

I'm a bit confused. Is trazodone helping you sleep? Because 10-12 hours sounds pretty good.

Why did you start at such a high dose? I can sleep on 50mg without any side efffects. Even at 100mg I felt ill, i'm sure 300mg must be quite harsh. Sorry I can't be more helpful i'm just not quite sure what you dislike about trazodone.  :)

Thanks for your replies. :)

the traz really doesn't help me sleep. It makes me sleep longer than I want to and makes getting up really hard. I've always had a hard time waking up but it's a lot worse with the trazodone. I also forgot to mention that it makes me feel like throwing up.

The target dose as an AD is 600 mg. we're trying 300 for a month to see if I can tolerate it. I have tried all of the drugs mentioned. I take Zyprexa, I need to be at 20 mg but can only tolerate 10.

Are you eating when you take the Trazodone?  I always eat something when I take my dose.

I know what you mean about it making it sooooo hard to get up in the a.m.  No matter how early in the evening you take it on the night before.  (Wasn't that a Beatles song?  the Night Before....

I do eat when I take it.

I think I've given this drug just about enough time. I can't remember everything that is going on.

It's not working well as an AD at all.

To my knowledge, trazodone is useless as an AD.  Really good for sleep (I take 150-200mg a night for that reason) but that's about it.  Everybody I know takes it for that same reason.  They wanted you to take it as an AD?  Odd.

Well, it was an experiment. My depression is bad right now but more manageable than usual. Both me and my pdoc agreed that it probably won't work. As far as being a sleep aid? Bah! I'm jealous of all you guys that can take it for sleep. It makes sleep for me come harder. Oh, well. So much for drug # 17. We'll have more options once I get some insurance.
