This is bizarre. I go there, enter Trazadone and Cymbalta, get back both a major drug interaction and a moderation drug-food interaction between trazadone and grapefruit juice, and guess which one it bothered to really tell us about?

So, I went to aidsmeds.com check my meds page. The major drug interaction was serotonin syndrome, which can be avoided with careful management, even if one is using two or more drugs with serotonergic properties. The said to keep a close watch for:

8 wks ago, my pdoc rx'd trazodone pm for sleep, started me on cymbalta am, 20mg at the same time. Each month I move up on the cymbalta, 20mg, 40mg, been at  60mg for one wk. Makes me wonder if she's reading her PDR! Maybe she just thinks she'll watch me closely? I have just now started to get SOME effect from the cymbalta, at 60mg. Still quite mild, I'm hoping it will increase it's effects over time.
40mg cymbalta, am, depression
25-50mg trazodone, pm, sleep
100mg provigil, 1-3xd, anti-fog
1-.5mg clonazepam as needed, anxiety

I was taking 120 mg Cymbalta and 150 mg of Trazadone for almost 6 months (along with Valium 10 mg PRN). I also drank grapefruit juice freely during that period. I had absolutely no interaction problems. This is just my personal experience, so by all means contact you pdoc if you have any questions.

The Cymbalta didn't work for me and the Trazadone made me to groggy the next day so my cocktail has since changed.

My Present Cocktail :

225 mg Effexor in AM (Probably will be increased)
10 mg Valium PRN (Usually twice a day)
3 mg Lunesta for sleep (w/ 10 mg Valium if required.)

I would stay away from the grapefruit juice as it does interact with many of our meds, I was unaware of this at the time.

The dose of Traz. used for sleep is much much small than that typically used to treat depression.  There shouldn't be any interaction problems.

Grapefruit juice can interfere with the metabolism of several medications so it's best avoided.

De-gnosis: ADD, recurrent depression (or maybe bpII in the guise of such), Asperger's, OCD, social anxiety
Today's Pill Menu: Dexedrine, Wellbutrin (Budeprion), Topamax, Risperdal, clonazepam
