I've been prescribed ativan and a couple of hours after it wears off I'm even more nervous than usual. what gives?

Ativan has a short half life.

Ask your doc for something longer lasting like Klonopin. It'll keep you "evened out" and give you less of a rebound effect. Also, its a bit more expensive, but ask for the brand-name Klonopin -- not the generic, clonazepam. Many people, myself included, find the generic inferior to the brand-name.
yeah yeah yeah, we've all heard the song and dance that generics are the same as brand-name. And in many...if not most...cases the generics work just about as good as the brand. However the FDA allows differences in the way generics and brand-names are formulated and sometimes, as with Klonopin, the "differences" in the formula have a big impact on how well the medication works.
