I came across this by chance and had to respond. I have taken adderoll on and off since 2003 and have also taken flexeril due to back issues and am here to tell you that if you are experiencing the jaw problem to where people say it looks like you are eating then you are taking WAY too much of the stimulant. For the person that started taking adderoll and started off on 30 mg wtf was your dr thinking? I started off on one ten miligram pill a day and within a 3 year period I increased to 50 miligrams a day. Your tolerance climbes DRASTICALLY with the shit! You are supposed to take the medicine to feel normal.. if you feel a little more than normal like if you are speeding then you need to slack back on the dosage cuz your tolerance will get out of control sooner or later. Oh- and I also took concerta.. I dont remember the miligrams but that didn't work so I went to adderoll. I have had to take a lil too much to where I've experienced what you are talking about with the jaw clinching and it is painful.. it causes muscle spasms in my head so I massage my temples.. if you move your jaw and massage your temples and under your chin it does seem to give me relief but PLEASE consider what I'm saying.. I have seen people RUIN their lives behind this stuff and I try to deal with my tolerance by going two days a week taking half of my prescribed dose and one day every two weeks not taking anything. I've heard that the deal with the teeth decaying is due to the acid in your mouth, or in the pill, I dont know mixing with the fact that adderoll keeps you from eating much (stomach bile which is acidic) and the lack of salivia along with grinding teeth can mess up your teeth horribly. I know that things that are acidic need a buffer such as baking soda or something like that and should stay away from caffine or salt and stuff like that.. drink plenty of water and make sure to take your vitamins. Its a bad chain reaction to take adderol for ADD and then muscle relaxers for tense muscles.. then what next? I try melatonin to help me relax if I'm too high strung or whatever along with a hot hot hot shower and sleep meditation stuff. People you have GOT to regulate this stuff. There is a reason why it is a controlled substance! I know after I had to go a few days not able to get my prescription (had to evacuate) and the withdrawls after taking it for so long were so bad that I almost wanted to NEVER take it again. It gives you a surge of norepinepherine (spelling?) which is an antidepressant that gives you the "get up and go" feeling even when you are depressed so if you take too much adderoll, your body stops producing the stuff and relies completely on the pills and for some people this is something that cannot be reversed. I have seen my cousin run out of his medicine early and not be able to move from off of the couch or have a bowel movement for weeks at a time! Of course this was an extreme case but I hope you understand the severity of it all. With me- there is always a point to where you can take just a little bit to where you can focus and have a little bit of get up and go but it would not be IMPOSSIBLE to go to sleep. If you start clinching your jaw and you are not possible of sitting down.. you need to slow it down. Can you imagine how fast your heart could beat and combine that with say... a lot of caffine.. or say you have bad eyes and for some reason you are straining your eyes.. and then say a life shattering event happens.. can you say heart attack? I may be completely wrong.. but this has been my experience and I dont think I am.. but I just dont want you all to learn the hard way what I've experienced the past few years. I have slowly cut back on my dosage and I hope to get it to where I take no more than ten miligrams a day... I've been on it so long to where I can tell that too much of the stuff just doesn't make me feel right.. but a certain amount sort of makes me feel like I drank coffee but I can focus.. I could tell in the past when my body is like trying to tell me something and if you have an addictive personality.. omg.. (huge pause).. just stop as much as you can now! Its important that you have a legit doctor.. not one that will just write anyone a prescription so that you can talk about your possible addiction fears. Its a shame that the person that started off on 30 mg a day never had the experience of starting off on 5 miligrams and getting that feeling from just five.. I hope you dont ever end up in the situation to where you regret that one day! I've thought about time released pills and I dont like it much.. I like to be able to cut the pills in half or regulate how long the stimulants will be in my body.. once you take a time released pill you are in the control of the meds no matter what happens and if your going to just take a pill cuz you need a little bit of get up and go there is some of the medicine that you could be wasting - extra being consumed that might not be necessary which is an accident waiting to happen in my situation. I suggest doing things to get your heart pumped up ON YOUR OWN before taking meds.. once you get to the point to where you cant get up in the morning without pressing snooze, getting up and taking adderoll and then when it goes off again you are able to get up, its too bad. Dont get me wrong- if I met the person that made it, I would probably kiss them.. its helped change my life in a good way but too much of a good thing is (in this case) a battle that not everyone gets out of alive. Good luck to you all.. God Bless!!!
PS - adderoll is an uppper, muscle relaxers are a downer.. this is EXACTLY what has been said to have killed Elvis and I work in an industry that is 24 hours so I see a lot of people on stuff like this... mixing an upper with a downer has been referred to as being able to "blow your heart up" by so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so many people that I know for years and years! Please be careful!!!

Wow, I'm glad I stumbled upon these entries. I've never actually posted on sites like these, but I typically find the information to be pretty helpful. It's nice to know that so many other "regular" people out there have the same kinds of problems that I have. (However, I'm sorry we're all suffering :-( )

I've been taking Adderall for over a year, and it's made a world of difference in my schoolwork. I take a 20 mg XR in the morning and if I still have a lot to do by the time that wears off, I'll take a 10 mg regular one. I recently started taking Zoloft (an SSRI), and I think my TMJ-like symptoms started after I began taking it.

I've noticed an increase in how much I grind my teeth at night, my jaw pops and cracks when I try to chew tough food, and my jaw aches all day. I'm an obsessive gum-chewer (OCD with having good breath all of the time), so I've had trouble giving up that habit. I did buy a cheaper version of the dental mouth guard from Target and molded it (clumsily) to my teeth 2 nights ago. It does seem to help, because when I wake up in the morning my jaw is pain free. However, a couple of hours into the day I'm experiencing lots of jaw pain again. I plan to start doing some jaw exercises for TMJ, and to continue with the mouth guard at night, but does anyone have any other suggestions that have been really helpful? (I KNOW I really SHOULD stop chewing gum and I'm going to work on weaning myself off)

Thank you all for reading! And good luck in your own TMJ/Jaw Pain struggles, my heart goes out to you.

I am 22 years old and just began taking Adderall about 2 weeks ago (10 mg 3-4x daily) along with Lamictal and Citalopram for Bipolar Disorder that I have taken for a couple years.

I have definitely noticed the jaw clenching and light teeth grinding, but it is not really bothering me that bad...yet. I really hope it doesn't increase in intensity. I have stiffness of the jaw, but its not unbearable. At this point I am really glad that I began taking Adderall. I have been extremely productive at my job and also with school work where I normally do not show a great deal of interest. Oh and the side effect of weight loss also gives me a boost as I have always had trouble shedding the pounds. I'm curious as to how long it took before anyone noticed a decrease in their weight?

The negatives I have noticed include insomnia which I just started to experience the past 3 days. I also am not a fan of the muscle stiffness and my hands and feet being freezing cold, but my body is sweating. Overall I am looking forward to see how Adderall works out for me into the future in treating my ADHD. Does anyone know anything about tolerance? I'm curious as to how long I will be able to take Adderall before it is no longer effective.

I've known people who've been on stimulants for decades. I would think the key to avoiding tolerance is to make sure you're not taking enough for your body to start trying to compensate against the med. It's a healthy thing to discuss that concern with your doctor, possibly including identifying situations when you might want to decrease the Adderall for a day or two (insomnia, and summer days when you'll be working outside in the heat, are a couple of times it might be wiser to back off a bit)
