Max klonopin dose?

Recommended Posts

Guest spiderman

hey all, wondering what the max dose of klonopin is per day and how much is the max at night for sleep issues due to anxiety?

take 3mg a day now, .5 mid morning sometimes and .5mg mid afternoon sometimes, then 2mg at bed sometimes. or I take like .5 during the day or maybe .5 2x per day with .5 at night and 10mg of ambien.

I try to alternate a bit so i am not heavy on the k all the time or ambien.

tonight though i took a long nap now stuck up and trying to get to sleep

took 2x .5mg today, once in the morning and once in the mid afternoon, then .5 around 10pm, 1.5 around 11pm and then .5 around 12:30, getting tired but is that to much?

anyone know the recommended doseage?

I was taking 4 mg. split in 4 doses, but it made me very sleepy during the day. I got the OK yesterday to reduce it to .5 mg. 3 x day and 1.0 mg. at bedtime.

Tommy

PS I know this doesn't address your question about max dose, but just wanted to show how it can effect different folks differently.

I think that is is really important to be able to go the doc who prescribes you your klonopin and ask what the recommended dosages are for your disorder, as people have noted, different symptoms and severity of symptoms have been treated with different dosages.

4mg a day is a maximum, for any patient, panic or seizure, even though it says 20mg a day for seizure that dose would literally would be unfillable by any honest pharmacist, they would end up calling the doctor and questioning him/her. anything up to 4mg is safe, anymore is just putting your life in danger.

Anything higher would make anyone a walking zombie, and Klonopin taken over long periods and in high doses has a VERY high chance is know for the development of Alzheimer's Disease, especially in men.

Seriously, a VERY high chance? I have yet to see a study that proves Klonopin or any other benzo causes dementia. Even the one that people always cite shows at most a corelation which can be explained and in no way does it imply that benzos cause dementia.

I agree with notloki. Produce peer-reviewed studies that support your claims. Please don't perpetuate falsehoods and fear monger.

My pdoc has told me a possible effect can be dementia and was happy when I weaned myself off of it. I took 2mg at night.

What your doc says is not proof. You need journal articles, ,medical texts, or the PI to proof this statement. There was a study that everyone go up in arms about. It found an association between benzos and dementia. My experience with dementia and benzos is that with dementia, behavior is the first to go. They get angry, confused, and ,melt down.

So right off the bat they are put on a small dose of benzos. There is your association.

Tom is correct the maximum recommended dose for seizures is 20mg/day. For panic disorder it is 4mg/day.

www.rxlist.com is an excellent source for for information. Here is a link:

That's makes me feel good beyond what I can say. My Dr screwed my meds up and I went from .25 klonopin to 1.5 and feel like I'm on a high dose never to get down. 4mg. ☺

The long half life can be helpful coming off. I don't really get withdrawal tho so I don't know a ton as far as a discontinuing schedule

Yes, not to beat a dead horse, even the people who conducted the one study admitted there was no causation shown. Yet doctors routinely use this as a scare tactic to get patients off benzos.
