Anyone know? From a pharmacological perspective?

Where are you getting that idea? I was under the impression that unless absolutely necessary, doctors tend to stick to one antipsychotic at a time.

Some social worker told me told me that. Going to see the psychiatrist tomorrow. Will ask him then.

Yeah. Ask the pdoc. I've never heard of Abilify and Risperdal being prescribed together as a usual thing.

Seroquel is the only AAP that comes to mind as being paired with another AAP and that's because it's a good sleeping med at low doses. Risperdal and Abilify... haven't seen them together here or heard of anyone on the combo elsewhere.

I used to be on risperidone and Abilify (plus mirtazapine). Risperidone helped with the psychotic symptoms and Abilify helped with the depression. That combination worked for a while, but I ended up having to switch from risperidone to clozapine because of side effects. I have no idea if either of those combinations is commonly used, though.

Well, I just saw the psychiatrist today. He decided on an increase in Lexapro, not an addition of Risperdal. He thought my ruminations were more related to OCD, not over-perseverations that are a part of my schizophrenia (or schizoaffective disorder, whatever I have).

My diagnoses are

Obsessive-compulsive disorder

Schizoaffective disorder (with over-perseveration as part of the schizo- disorder)

Asperger's syndrome

abilify and risperdal are not commonly prescribed together in my experience.

I am on two aaps right now but I really try to avoid that when I'm not in a hellish, mixed episode. Sometimes, you do what you have to.

Some docs will combine 2 aaps low dose long term, but it really isn't the greatest plan, in my opinion. But eh, somtimes it IS the best way to treat sx.

It's highly individual, in my experience.

Except for me (hehe, SW) don't listen to them about meds. They tend not to know SHIT.
