No goodbyes, just good memories

Dear All,

We have recently become aware that one of our chat mods, Pseudopod, passed away last weekend. We have no information about cause of death, and as far as we know there's no reason to speculate it was suicide vs some other cause. There was a memorial service on Friday, Jan 13th. An obituary published in his local paper requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the local SPCA (animal welfare) chapter and Ehler's-Danlos Society. We can find you the link if you're interested.

I know this comes as a shock to many of us, as any unexpected death does. The loss of pod's gentle presence and contributions, including fabulous dinner ideas, will continue to be felt across our community. Please feel free to leave your comments here, and offer support to each other to the best of your capacity. If you need more support to help process this loss, please reach out to other people in your life including members of your care team. Don't be shy about calling a warm line or crisis line if you need someone's voice and not just text.

Grief sucks, but it sucks slightly less when done as a community.

I'd be interested in donating eventually. Would love a link to make sure I'm not donating to the wrong place.

This sucks. He will be remembered.

@writehellarandomshiny, donations may be made to the Ehlers-Danlos Society (http://ehlers-danlos.com/giving/) or to the Aiken County SPCA, 199 Willow Run Rd., Aiken, SC 29801.

Never saw any posts of what he wrote, I only ever saw his presence on the chat room when I visited all two times. But it's always sad to hear someone dying. I would be interested to hear what happened there. I hope it was peacefully and wasn't in any sort of pain.

I am devastated beyond belief. I have been very close with Pod since we both joined CBs in 2013. This seems unreal and I can't accept it.

His beloved dogs were dumped in a shelter after he died. They look scared and confused. Thankfully, Just Ducky is looking into adopting them or I would drive all they way to South Carolina myself to get them.

I haven't cried this much since my tdoc died last year and that was a horrifying situation. I hope we can all remember the great man he was and take that to heart.

I will miss him so much and I know I am not alone.

I can't believe his dogs had to go to a shelter :(  I hope somebody is able to adopt them together.

I think I've found a link to a pet relocation site that will help get the dogs from his home to Atlanta, @JustDucky. I'll leave it below so you can take a look.

I'm not normally one to cry, but I bawled my eyes out today and hid in the bathroom when I was supposed to be creating testing spreadsheets for the dojo.  Pod's humour and kindness never went unnoticed and I will never forget that he took the time to call me and teach me how to tie a tie an hour before I was supposed to go to a semi formal dinner event and he didn't hang up on me till I got it right.

Pod, you shot for the moon and landed up in the stars. I'm gonna miss you, friend

I don't know what to say. I did not know. I can't... believe it. I'm sorry. I will miss Pod a lot, even if we never actually met or were particularly close, it was just someone I trusted to always be here, be kind, be helpful. I will miss him.

I'm really missing him, and it really does suck. I don't know what to say.

I wasn't close to pod. Nor was I in chat often enough to get to know much about him. I just remember that he was always kind to me. I'm sad that the community has lost someone so loved. If anyone needs to talk, I'll listen, though I can't promise to be a very constant presence as I'm pulled in a lot of directions most of the day.

Thanks so much for looking into this. Maybe the next step would be to set up a PayPal to collect the funds. I'll throw in what I can, and I'm sure others here would love to as well.

Paypal has to be tied to a bank account, which might be problematic.  A crowd sourced donation (such as GoFundMe -- we've used this at work on multiple occasions) can be a good method as long as it's structured properly.

Either way, I'll keep watch.  Whatever you guys decide on, I'm in to help out.

Pod was an intelligent, witty sweetheart with a very kind soul.  Constructive empathy and measured compassion are tools that many strive for and Pod always managed with aplomb.  Looking at the responses here, he'll clearly be missed... and that's a reward of a life well lived.

Rest easy, mate.  You've earned it.
