Does diagnosis matter to you?

I find a dx useful only in a broad sense (possible symptoms, treatment plan, etc.) It's a generalized idea of what to expect. I find this mostly useful when dealing with doctors, not so much anybody else. From there, it becomes granular, and what works for me doesn't necessarily work for anybody else. My tdoc and pdoc both share this point of view, so I get along with them just fine for treatment.

Now telling friends/family/etc that I'm bipolar doesn't work out as well... the dx becomes an issue at that point, due to lack of understanding and too much generalization. It's a double-edged sword.
