Hi

I've been on a big, nasty dose of Tegretol (1200 mg) for BP I rapid cycling for nine months and with my new pdoc, I've finally been prescribed a benzo, Ativan .5 mg, as needed for anxiety and out-and-out panic attacks. I can double it if necessary. The thing is, I know that Tegretol can eat up all kinds of meds by making them metabolize too much. Has anyone else taken Tegretol with a benzo and had trouble with it not working? I guess I'm getting nervous in advance. lol I don't want to get stuck with yet another panic attack and take my new Ativan and have nothing happen.

I used to take 600mg Tegretol with 1mg of Ativan and had absolutely no problems. Since coming off Tegretol I've noticed no change in the effect of the Ativan.

I think ativan is one of the OK ones in terms of liver metabolism. I'm pretty sure valum is OK. Teg by itself helped a lot with my anxiety.

I can't say the Tegretol helped with my anxiety at all. Wish it did. Topamax is helping, though.

I'm on Tegretol and take clonazepam prn, sometimes quite a bit of it. I had to take more clonazepam than previous to get the same effect since starting on the Tegretol. But yeah, I'm fine really.
