In counseling, my therapist has suggested several times that I ask my Pdoc for Ativan. I am at the point with Xanax that i have to ask for a up in dosage because .25 doesn't do the job. Basically my therapist believes that the Ativan will do a better job with anxiety/rage that I sometimes get. She has also suggested taking the Xanax/Ativan daily.

So i have two questions:

-What are the differences between Xanax and Ativan?
-How do I go about asking my Pdoc for Ativan?

Thanks for your help!

I don't think there's much difference between them. They are both very short acting. I would suggest switching to a longer acting stuff like clonazepam or diazepam. You only need to take it twice daily. Regular dosing is definitelly a good idea to keep the stuff built up in your system. How to ask? Well, just say that xanax is not working for you anylonger and you would like to try something else (longer acting preferably). That's what doctors are for, they're there to listen to you!
