Just started Buspar today - am hoping for the effect of killing the physical side of all of this anxiety crap.
How long did it start to kick in?
Hoping soon - please God soon

For anxiety itself? Or for the effects of anxiety?

Hey Pac,
It will not compare with Xanax.
I took it for awhile and I thought it helped a tad with anxiety, but then I had a paradoxyl reaction and had the biggest panic attack I had ever had and ended up at the clinic having an EKG because I thought I was having a heart attack, LOL. So I stopped taking it and got some Ativan. Thats just my story, but I really haven't heard many say it did much for them.

wow Dee - sorry to hear that!
I'm glad you are not having any more of those!
Elvis:
I can't concentrate, sit still, I pace, I worry, I don't want to drive, I've cancelled a gp appt. for today.
I know there's lots involved here...but if I could just get rid of this physical nevousness!!
I was on abilify, said I think it's making me like this, so changed over to risperdal.
Don't notice any change on it, so they called me in some buspar for the physical crap.
I still take xanax like crazy and wished it would last longer in my system without making me so tired.

have you tried any other benzodiazapies? Klonopin has a much longer half-life
They make a sustained release xanax.
The buspar can take a few weeks to work if it's going to work.
It's a not a benzo but I moved it here because people who take benzos are most like to have had experience with it and alternatives.

Thanks Elvis -
sigh..i need something to work now. I just woke up from a nap because its better than being awake.
That is SAD.
Why does it take so long to work?
Just to get a blood level?
I guess it's another call into pdoc unless I can get this to work like soon.
Thanks for the info.

I took generic Buspar for a couple of months, and it didn't do much for me. I was taking it for social phobia, and while it helped a little with general anxiousness, it didn't do what I needed it to. Also, it made me dizzy and achy for a while after I took the first of two doses each day.
As far as the physical effects of anxiety are concerned, the only thing that's helped me thus far as been Ativan. From my experience and from what other people are saying, a benzo would be more effective for that.
Good luck with the Buspar though, it might work for you.

Klonopin rules. Long half-life and I've been taking it for over 2 years and haven't had to increase my dose. I take 1.5 mg. per day 3 times a day. It has totally blocked the things you are describeing. not 100% of the time , but probably about 90%. It doesn't make you feel "high". I hardly know I'm taking it, except for the great effects.

have heard that Buspar works best when used as an augmenting med along with an anti-depressant, such as an SSRI. On it's own it seems to not work as well for others. Klonopin works pretty decent, I have had good success with it while taking Gabitril, I seem to not be developing a tolerance as fast to it.....though who knows.
