Its suggested that drugs like klonopin are only used for 2 to 4 week periods
surely there are people on here who take them longer term ?

Have been on ativan or klonopin or xanax or valium ( one at a time) for about 20 years.

i've been on konopin, in various doses, for 12 years.
i've developed a very slight "addiction" to it at times, where my body would notice it if it weren't there and crave it, but otherwise i have noticed no adverse effects.
it has saved me from the horror of anxiety and trips to the hospital with feelings of a heart attack.
my pdoc gave me the choice, as an adult, if i wanted to risk benzo addiction and continue klonopin or drop it. i chose to continue, because it is worth it, despite any addiction potential. i was right in my case. i've managed to avoid the worst and benefit from the best.
i'd advocate the responsible long-term use of benzos to treat anxiety that nothing else will touch.

I think i've been on clonazepam for over 2 years. It hasn't lost it's effectiveness. I think they suggest only to use it for 2-4 weeks because they haven't done studies on long term benzo use.
