  1. For those of you following along at home, I have post-Covid syndrome. My heart and lungs are ok. Too soon to tell if there’s neurological damage.

    Sixty-two days in.

I'm so sorry gear to hear this. I'm very sad to hear this. Why does this have to happen to the best people out there? So unfair. 62 days is awful. Beyond awful. Sending healing thoughts your way for sure.

  3. Recovering very, very slowly, with a lot of setbacks. I have the energy to look in most days, but I have a lot of brain fog to go with the endless exhaustion, so it’s hard to participate. I miss all of you.

  5. Sometimes my dog curls up into a really tight ball and clamps her tail so tightly over her nose that she makes herself wheeze. I don’t know what that’s about, but it’s her tail, and her nose, and she seems to like it. I try not to pry.

    1. saintalto

      saintalto

Dogs are odd creatures. Mine sleeps with her head buried in a pillow. I don’t know how she breathes.

  6. Just what the fuck.

  7. Has anyone heard from Coraline? I’m worried about her.

      I don't know...it's been a long time, I hope she's okay.

  8. The dog who’s scared of fireworks is now too deaf to hear them, and the dog who can hear her bowl being filled with kibble from the back yard doesn’t mind them. This is the calmest 4th I’ve had in 13 years.

Margot barked a little when someone lit them close by on the street, but the distant fireworks didn’t bother her.

  10. So, has anyone else ever had a moment of weakness and eaten more of their gummy vitamins than they were supposed to?

I will have very expensive pee in the morning.

      Cerberus

No. What are these 'vitamins' you speak of? Are they the things that used to look like the Flintstones when we were kids? And now they're gummy?

Of course they are - anything good for me is inherently going to be bad for my teeth, in this case, almost guaranteed to yank off a crown. Talk about an expensive chew...

  12. Why didn’t anyone warn me that learning how to thread a sewing machine is so fucking hard?

do you have any of those needle threaders? they can be really useful if you've got shaky hands like me!

I did, and it was helpful...right up to the moment it came apart. This is not the first threader I’ve broken. I’m wondering if there’s some way to buy them in bulk.

One of the absolute most difficult things EVER! I completely agree! It is so complicated! Why oh why must it be so complex? You wind around here, swivel the yarn here, then through this little hole, etc. and repeat these steps 1,000,000 times! Viola! Lol

What are you seeing if I can ask, gear. ?

  13. Check in, hon.

      mikl_pls

I'm here. I don't know why but just haven't been logging in as much. Just haven't been feeling like doing much. But I'm here. Thanks for checking on me! :)

  14. I’m conflicted. I’d like to do a puzzle, but the last time I tried one of any complexity, my moron dog ate one of the pieces.

  15. If I defy this skull-deforming headache and go make a cake like I had planned to, will I regret it? Is cake something one regrets? The kitchen lights though...

Should I eliminate the middle man and just eat the tub of frosting?

    2. saintalto

      saintalto

No regrets with cake. Cake is always appropriate.

  16. Between my allergies and the weapons-grade onion I chopped up while making dinner, I look like I’ve been crying for hours. Oh, and I got jalapeño juice in one eye.

    1. Cerberus

      Cerberus

And yet you still went to the trouble of using a tilde to spell jalapeño. You’re a trouper...

    2. saintalto

      saintalto

I had to mince a fresh onion the other night. Many trips to the bathroom to douse my eyes with water.

i once completely ruined a pair of contact lenses by taking them out while i had jalapeño juice on my fingers. i didn't wash my hands well enough, i guess.

Thank you everyone from the bottom of my heart for checking in on me. Really. I have been in deplorable condition, not doing anything at all but laying in bed. I think I'll write a blog entry about the past few weeks in case anyone is interested.

  18. My dogs are enjoying being homeschooled.

    F05AEC1E-F23A-4F17-901C-25FC5661360D.jpeg

They both still suck at long division, and can’t spell anything but “arf.”

      helenllama

My dog is actually being homeschooled via online doggy school at the moment.

  19. Day four of our self-mandated quarantine, and I poured cracker crumbs in my own bed to the dog could lick them up.

  20. I HAVE ALLERGIES!

I WANT TO SCRATCH MY NOSE AND RUB MY EYES

ISN’T THERE SOME KIND OF EXEMPTION I CAN GET?

@mikl_plsThanks. I’ve tried Claritin to no avail. I’ll look into Singulair.

    3. Cerberus

      Cerberus

For my hair-trigger allergies, I take Zyrtec (cetirizine hydrochloride) 10mg once daily, and have done so for years. Now, I almost never have allergic reactions that require eye-rubbing and nose-scratching, and I can even tolerate most non-hypoalergenic cats without going into an asthmatic fit. Not sure about Siamese, though - they're the 800 lb. gorilla of cat allergies for me, so I've avoided them. Besides, they're cranky.

Always get the generic. Name-brand Zyrtec is stupidly higher.

    4. Geek

      Geek

Oddly enough, I find Flonase or Nasacort to be more effective at treating my itchy eyes than Zyrtec or Singulair (both of which I also take anyway). Zyrtec helps with the nasal symptoms, but the nasal steroids seem to have a bigger impact on itchy eyes. Maybe worth a shot?

  21. How’s it going, Teacup? Check in when you can, hon.

  22. Hey, wanna know a really effective way of making yourself incredibly unpopular? Go out in public with a cough right now.

Jesus Christ, people, it’s just a fucking cold. I’m not a plague vector.

You should pin on a nametag that reads "Typhoid Mary" and walk around that way just for fun.

    2. saintalto

      saintalto

Make it a tag that says Mary Mallon and see if anyone gets the joke.

  23. Today I explained to a frightened young friend of mine that she cannot get COVID 19 from eating at a Panda Express. Folks, if any of your loved ones are autistic and tend towards the literal-minded end of the spectrum, remember when you talk to them that clarity is kindness.

I went to the grocery store today and stuff was cleared out. People are panicking and buying all the ramen noodles, toilet paper, and dry spaghetti.

    2. mikl_pls

      mikl_pls

My brother told me to tell my dad to get his insulin filled now even if he doesn't need it because, like @saintalto said, people are panicking and stocking up on stuff.

    3. DogMan

      DogMan

Shipping out of China was effected a few weeks too, straight after lunar new year, which also slows things. So lots of the heavily imported stuff like bog rolls will be in shorter supply anyway. Even before the stockpilers get in

  24. Sometimes I just hold out my hand and make scritchy movements and let my dog rub whatever itches against my nails at her discretion.

  25. I really want to live in a world where acts of cruelty break my heart, not acts of kindness.
