  1. First off, welcome to the board!!! My name is Stephanie - I'm 26 years old, been married for 9 years now and I have 3 great children. I am diagnosed as Bipolar I with generalized anxiety. My meds are listed below. I also have a 5 year old son who is diagnosed as Bipolar I with psychotic features, autism, and ADHD. I do have a website which I blog in, there's some other support there if you ever want to check it out. It's in my signature! The best and most important step into getting mentally therapy is being honest with ourselves so you're headed in the right direction! Try to keep your head up and I look forward to seeing you around.

My bipolar really started to onset around 17-18 but I wasn't diagnosed until I was 24 years. It was a long, long 6 years to say the least.

And I am glad I am not the only one who's major is psychology. I haven't decided if I am going into child psychology or clinical psychology. Regardless, it will be a long time before I have even my A.A. degree. I'm on Prozac as well. Hopefully it goes well for the both of us. I am still depressed which sucks!

I think being on a medication with the side effect of weight gain for 9 years is incredible, that shows some great loyalty on your part. I know it's frustrating. I was a skinny woman before I got on Depakote, after 4 months I had gained 50 lbs. I still haven't lost it. I think it messed up my thyroids. I finally got off of it around March. I was so scared to go back to the doctor and try anything else. But I did. I owed it to myself and so do you. I am on Saphris which works great and actually curbs my appetite so there are other drugs out there, don't lose hope yet!
  10. Okay, that's good to know. I have been on it for about a month so I can function on it well during the day as opposed when I first started taking it, I wasn't functioning until after lunch. So I am comfortable with it, I just think it's something I need to take while watching a movie or something, lol. The reason my pdoc tried it is because all the other meds she wanted to try were pretty weight gainers. I have some pretty extreme mania, even bordering on psychotic from time to time, so this seemed to be a good med choice as it's weight neutral. I will just deal with the fatigue because it's better than gaining weight for me!
  11. Oh no, I plan to mention it at my next appt. I just wanna make sure it's something normal. It's not that it makes me tired. I wake up usually 8 hours from when I take it fine, it's how it makes me fall asleep that I hate LOL. But I found the trick to not make it so bad... to watch a movie or show after I take it then I just drift off to sleep without realizing so.
  12. I take 10 mg of Saphris and for the most have been taking it for the last month or so. The one complaint I have is how it makes me sleepy. I've taken other medications that have a drowsy effect but this is like nothing I've ever encountered and I just wanna make sure I'm not the only one. It feels like anesthesia, I cannot control my drowsiness, it like overtakes my body if that makes sense. I hate it, and it makes me in such a deep sleep. If I am already tired and going to bed at that very moment it's not as much as a problem but I just hate how it makes me feel fatigue-wise. It works great though and is wonderful with my moods and mania soooo I keep taking it but there are night I've skipped just because I don't want to feel that 'drowsy' effect
  13. Welcome Misdiagnoses are the worst! I am so sorry. My mother is BPD. Glad they finally got a good handle on it though. I am Bipolar I and General Anxiety. I have 2 children who are ADHD/ADD and then a 5 year old son who is bipolar with psychosis and autism. I look forward to seeing you around!
  14. It's so nice to see a fellow Floridian. Yeah, we're the only state that refers to "baker acting" LOL. So nice to meet you. Long story short but I am diagnosed with Bipolar I and Anxiety but I also have a 5 year old son who is diagnosed as Bipolar I with psychotic features (doctors feel it will later be schizo-affective), Autism, and ADHD. I do understand the tragedy when you can't work. Working for me was everything but ironically working makes me manic which mania is when I can become very dangerous and psychotic at times. But the good thing is that I love helping others that face mental illness or autism so I made a website. We have just had to kind of play by ear. This is my true passion. It doesn't brings in thousands every month but our bills are paid! I have a blog below if you wanna check it out. Look forward to seeing you around.
  15. How awesome is that! You know, it's so hard to find support. It's hard to find other parents of a bipolar and autistic child but to find someone who is also bipolar and has an autistic and bipolar child is awesome! I am glad to know we can find a support in each other. Feel free to add me personally on FB as well. I am very open especially when it comes to support as I don't feel we get enough of it.
