I have noticed recently that some vitamins and other over the counter medications have labels that say "Distributed by Walgreens", or Wal-mart, or whatever. The labels don't say where the item was manufactured. I noticed it this morning on a new container of generic Vaseline. I thought that the place of manufacture had to be listed. Did I misunderstand, or did the rules change? Given the option between U.S. manufacturing and overseas manufacturing (excluding Western Europe) I'll pick the U.S. every time. I recently noticed that some store-brand garlic powder I bought came from China. I have garlic growing wild in my yard here in the Southeast U.S., so why do I want some that came from China? I asked the store manager about it, and he was able to find one brand that is still produced in the States. How screwed up is the world these days that it's cheaper to send a ship halfway around the world with a product that costs less than $1 retail? I hate to think about the life that the third-world sailors lead that ship this stuff to us....
