Speech in general has always been a little bit of an issue for me. I did see a speech pathologist in the past but I was about 12 and didn't care much to benefit from it then. Just for the record, I have always noticed that my speech is much sharper when I'm not taking antipsychotic medications. Strangely enough, I seem to speak the most clearly right before I have a relapse and I am becoming manic. Almost every antipsychotic I have taken has had a negative reaction on my speech but never as much as the most recent, Fanapt. I was recently switched from Latuda 20mg to Fanapt 6mg (once daily) to suppress akathisia. At first everything seemed fine and the akathisia which was a longtime battle of mine was tapering down just slightly on the Fanapt. Then a few weeks settle in and I start feeling like I've been hit by an 18-wheeler upon waking up and just overall sedated and "spaced out". I am forgetting things, mostly short-term memory loss. A few days ago I went into a retail pharmacy to buy a few specific things, walked inside the sliding doors and completely forgot what I walked inside for a few second, although I did ultimately remember a few minutes later. Not just this but I also seem to have developed blurred vision and can absolutely not drive or operate a vehicle on this medication. Additionally my speech is completely shot and disorganized almost half the time. My speech patterns at times are almost like someone who is borderline cognitively impaired yet my IQ is in the 101-109 range (I am average). I'm forgetting words that once came easily to me and have to scan my brain hard for them, sometimes for over 10 minutes. Usually I know what I want to say but it either doesn't come out right or I just can't get it out in words. It's extremely frustrating and it's causing depression and I've threatened suicide to family and friends yet backed off that is how bad its become. I just want my ability to speak normally to be returned to me. I am coming off the Fanapt but would like to be given some suggestions as to what steps I should take to rehabilitate my speech and what medications are not disabling for someone's speech or what medications could counteract disorganized speech. My current psychiatrist is unsympathetic and doesn't care. And my initial question is can Fanapt cause a speech impediment? -
I am currently taking Seroquel XR, Vyvanse, and Neurtontin. I haven't had a full blown manic episode since the Seroquel XR but I think I am still having some racing thoughts. I am also experiencing on and off depression. I talked to my pdoc about this last month when I saw her. She wanted to add Wellbutrin XL to the list but I took that in the past and it made me jittery and anxious. She then agreed not to, and said to give it a little while longer with my meds how they currently are. She said either 1.) we can just increase the Seroquel XR to 400 mg, 2.) keep my current meds the same but add Abilify, or 3). Keep my current meds the same but add Latuda. I know everyone's MMV and that no advice is to substitute the advice or decision of my pdoc, but I guess I'm just curious on others' opinions. I am scared to go up on my Seroquel anymore than it is, but I haven't had any bad side effects with 'quel either. It also seems to be working fairly well for me Also scared to try other AP's, especially with Seroquel. Do you think just asking for the Seroquel dose to be increased during my visit next week will be my best bet? Thanks -
I just wanted to share one tiny glimmer of sunshine that I found. I am recently diagnosed with bipolar + schizotypal PD and I've started taking Abilify (aripiprozale). It is so confusing trying to learn everything all at once, and especially since schizotypal is either on the schizophrenia spectrum or classified as a PD depending on which side of the Atlantic you're on... Anyway I thought this might be a good place to post this article, from a couple weeks ago. It sounds like scientists are going to figure out how to make antipsychotics NOT make us gain a bunch of weight! I mean, that would be really good news, right? Hopefully this is coming true. If anyone knows anything more about this please post. I realize with how the system works it's going to be years and years but... still. My doctor and I have been trying out Fanapt and have finally gotten up to the max therapeutic dose of 24mg and I'm curious to hear about other people's experiences with this med. I haven't really been able to gauge its efficacy given that I'm concurrently taking 600mg of Seroquel. My doctor's plan has been to lower the Seroquel in batches at this point. I've noticed some sexual side effects, dizziness after standing, trouble with disorganized thinking / verbalization, and I've had periods of complete flatness with regard to mood and affect, though this and the speech issues could be from being on so much medication. -
Hi everyone, I'm new here, I posted an intro topic which can be found here for anyone who's interested :-) The escitalopram I was using pooped out after 6 years, so I needed to find something new and I saw a psychiatrist recently. I was put on sertraline 10 days ago. So far so good. No real side effects. I'm on 50 mg, that's hardly a therapeutic dose, right? I want to go to 100 or a little more, and see how it goes. What he also said that I could take quetiapine / Seroquel 'as needed'. Never heard of this but I suppose since he's the doctor he would know. Are there any people here who take an anti-psychotic 'as needed'? I won't see this pdoc anytime soon....he only does consultations for my general doctor's office, so I can't ask more questions. I don't know if I have to wait for the sertraline to kick in? My issues: I call it 'stuck thought syndrome' because the classic Pure O is more about scary/bizarre/agressive/sexual thoughts and I don't have these. But it has become a big obsession for me to get rid of a certain unwanted thought. It's really intrusive, it comes back often, I get anxious, I try to find solutions, ruminate about it all the time...It's always the same thought bugging me and after 10 years of therapy I'm still not able to let it go. I have a big aversion to this thought so that is probably why it keeps coming back. Fluvoxamine pooped out on me in 2010, but helped me a lot, later on escitalopram was helpful....but with sertraline I can't tell yet. I hope it will work, and I really dread the antipsychotics because of side effects. I don't know if I'm going to gain weight on it but I really don't want to. But maybe I don't need to worry about this side effect because I just take it whenever this thought comes back and gets stuck again? The pdoc said it's a really good med for getting thoughts 'loosen up' and 'unstuck'. Could be just what I need! -
Hi I stopped taking invega sustenna due to brutal side effects it has been 3 months since my last injection but my boobs are still leaking and I have lost my period. Has anyone else had a similar experience? If so when did it finally stop? Wtf -
Good Afternoon everyone! I posted this in another forum, but I wanted to get a gauge of how people do when using Wellbutrin with an antipsychotic. I'm currently taking: 900mg Trileptal (300mg 3x/day) 200mg Lamictal (100mg 2x/day) 174mg Aplenzin (eq. 150mg Wellbutrin XL) 40mg Latuda Despite the fact that I'm now taking 4 medications to control rapid-cycling BPII, I'm actually really happy with where I'm at with my cocktail. I actually feel like each one serves its purpose. Latuda is the main bipolar antidepressant, but it is augmented with Aplenzin and Trileptal. Trileptal helps to keep me calm. Aplenzin helps with motivation, energy, pleasure, sex drive. Lamictal helps calm the waves. And in the time that I've been on Lamictal, my mood episodes have been much shorter. Previously they would debilitate me for days, but now they're more short-lived. And the Latuda is like a light-switch. I just transitioned back to it after being on other medications for the past year and it has been SO nice. The main reason I'm posting this though really is to get an idea of how people on Wellbutrin do with an antipsychotic. Things are more than they seem I'm sure, but one would think that they would fight each other. Wellbutrin inhibits norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake thus increasing levels of said neurotransmitters in the synapse. Antipsychotics work to BLOCK dopamine receptors and many of them noradrenergic receptors as well, but this inherently causes upregulation of both neurotransmitters as well. Anyone out there have Wellbutrin combined with an AP and/or other meds?

So I have tried many many ssris, they all make me suicidal, give me more anxiety and every side effect in the book. My doctor decided to put me on a new med, Rexulti.. I am extremely nervous because it is used for schizophrenia and major depression as an add on to an ssri. I have major depression and anxiety. But I am taking no other pills. Anyone here been put on a antipsychotic for anxiety and depression? -
Am looking for testimonies/recovey stories of people who've been heavily brain damaged by antipsychotics. I received 5 or 6 Risperdal Consta injections over a 2 month period last year and as a result find myself severely brain damaged/in a partial vegetative state. Am wondering is there hope of recovery. It's been 13 months since my last injection but the damage just seems to worsen. It seems the chemicals in the injections just keep seeping deeper into my brain tissue as time goes on. They certainly don't call them "long acting" injections for nothing. I've been told it can take many years to recovery from such a drastic change to one's brain if at all. Would love to hear your stories. Thanks. -
I was given 5 or 6 injections of Risperdal Consta over a 2 month period in early to mid 2015 and have been heavily brain damaged as a result. Am looking for testimonies or recovery stories of people affected similarly by this or any antipsychotic really. Much thanks and healing and recovery to you.

Hey guys I need your help! The past week and a half or so I've been getting progressively more paranoid and it's getting to the point I have panic attacks as I get ready to leave the house for work. I don't feel safe at work and am so stressed that I block out the majority of the day and have no idea what I do. When I shower the Shadows start chattering just quietly enough that I can't make out the words but I feel threatened by them, and they scramble my thoughts as I try to work. My pdoc just added Abilify 5mg to my meds in addition to Risperdal 3mg, Lamictal 200 mg, and Effexor 150mg. Have any of you had success with Abilify reducing paranoia? How soon might it work? I'm really struggling to get myself out of the house and to put in a day at work. I cry on the way there and usually on the way home too from the fear. I feel like they're plotting to capture me for experimenting. I don't know what for but I feel like they will keep me. Please help! Thank you so much! -
Hi all, Which antipsychotic or antihistamine/anticholinergic before bed will make you sleep & will make you feel the MOST REFRESHED in the morning? Also, maybe not many will, but is there any anticholinergic,antihistamine or antipsychotic that you could take a high dose around 7pm and fall asleep straight away?. no benzo's. Thanks. -
I know it says it in most of our signatures, but I was wondering if we could get a thread going of what antipsychotic(s) we are taking regardless of diagnosis, what dose, how well it/each work on a scale from 1-10, and its side effect(s) + any good side effects: I take: antipsychotic: risperidone dose: 3mg performance: 6 out of 10 effectiveness effects: I have a large appetite and its hard to keep the pounds off and I sleep 10-12 hours. It keeps my symptoms under my control. I am wondering if there is something better. -
I've been taking Abilify for about one month now and it's helping already in a few ways. However, I believe I'm experiencing something that might be described as "boredom" (I've never had issues with that) and intense nicotine cravings. I used to smoke and every once in awhile feel the urge, but this seems related to the medication. Anyone relate? Insights? -
I started Abilify a few days ago and I'm experiencing the occasional "pins and needles" sensation in my hands. Has this happened to anyone out there? Insomnia is also a major concern but I'm determined to try to stick it out and get used to it (hopefullly).

I have had a drug induced psychosis and was brought to the psych ward where they gave me 4mg of Risperidone and I took it for 3 months I was not told about the dangers of this med or anything so I stupidly took it for 3 months and I later found out that it was way to high of a dose I should have known to stop taking it whenever I felt so sedated and weak and I couldn't ejaculate, it made me sleep 12 hours a day and I peed the bed because of risperidone but anyway I took it for 3 months and stopped taking it and now I am NOT the same AT ALL and I have been off it for 9 months !! I no longer have my fun, funny, loving, bubbly, personality I cant get pleasure from any activities (anhedonia) I feel really dumbed down and spacey I have brain fog the world doesn't seem as beautiful like it did before I have slight tinnitus my vision is a little blurry I cant think like I used to AT ALL my creativity is gone I cant have meaningful conversations in the real world anymore everything I do is 100x harder I cant crack jokes anymore, my favorite music just sounds like noise im in a constant state of feeling like half asleep and I cant wake up I no longer feel euphoric,happy,sad or have them awesome excited feelings all I do is think about the damage from this poison called risperidone and look for answers on the internet about my situation I dont feel alcohol, cigarettes or any stimulants im just constantly in this damn state of mind 24/7 WILL THIS ALL GO AWAY or did risperidone DAMAGE my brain for life??? I read that risperidone changes the way your natural chemicals work in you brain and block all kinds of receptors please help I dont want to be like this forever life is not worth liveing like this please answer!!! -
I was wondering if anyone here takes an antipsychotic prn (as needed) for when you get irritable or agitated. I just really heard of this concept. I am on 80 mg of Latuda and it works well for me, however I still have some psychotic symptoms and I get extremely angry and irritable and there is absolutely no event to cause it. For those of you who have taken an antipsychotic prn, did it help you? What was the drug and dose? Should I talk to my pdoc about it? -

Which of the antipsychotics (both typical and atypical) are least likely to cause significant weight gain? I've tried Latuda and became manic, same with Saphris. I'm currently on Abilify, but the cost is too much to continue. -
Hey all, recently came out of the shadows are a long time lurker on here to ask a few questions. This site has always helped me a lot but I have a specific question that maybe you all can help answer. So I recently went back to a pdoc to get back on meds and he put me on Wellbutrin IR 75mgs (which I had to twist his arm into prescribing me. Libido and weight issues lead me to taking a chance with Welly.) and 2mgs of Trilafon for the intrusive thoughts. I thought it was weird that he was prescribing me an antipsychotic when I didn't have any (previous) psychotic features. This man met me for all of 10 mins and assumes i have psychotic features?!? I'm confused...is it common to be prescribed an antipsychotic for just a little intrusive thoughts?? ARE intrusive thoughts considered to be a "psychotic feature"?? -
OK, so I take 75mg of invega sustenna and when I go to sleep at night I have no problems it is only when I wake up that I feel tired and want to go back to sleep but I CANT my mind/body just wont shut down but I feel tired and its the same during the day sometimes il feel tired and just can't fall asleep... this all started happening when I started taking invega... anyone else experiencing this or can tell me what is going on or anything I would greatly appreciate it. -
I am 23 yr old male and I take invega sustenna shots every month for psychosis and since then there is almost no pleasure from orgasms... has anyone ever experienced this I would like to hear your opinions and stories... My doctor is going to try lowering the dose and if that doesn't work he will try Abilify...

I have schizoaffective disorder having generally lower hypomania - not mania. I have been taking Serdolect for a week, now 8mg, two days later it will be 12 mg. It is the only non sedating antipsychotic. I selected it for that reason because all the antipsychotics (I have to take for schizo^+bipolar) make me a zombie. But - this one activated me too much that I sleep 5.5 hours a day with full energy throughout the day. It appears to have the antipsychotic effect, thats fine but that too much activation worries me a little bit. Can this be a hypomania? I know my hypomania - in the last year when I did change the meds to lighter ones I had grandoise when I became hypomanic- but not with this med (may be antipsychotic effect covered it?). Also there are other symptoms I have when I am hypomanic - but now I do not have most of them. Only wakefulness, and some stimulation - I guess this is called activation. Now what I wonder is, if this is not hypomania but activation, can this make bipolar worse - I mean sleeping 5.5 hours a day and full energy - without most of the hypomanic symptoms I generally have? Or --- (if) because it is not hypomania, it is only activation, this will bring no problems? I tried Abilify - it activates some people - I was one of them - was fine in the beginning but it did not end up not fine. But the mechanisms are really different as Serdolect activates most people and bring no sedation to anyone. Abilify depends on person to person - makes some zombie. So I believe I have some chance now not ending up bad. But I would like to learn all your opinions on what I ask underlined in bold. All the best.
