  1. Hey all, had a rather upsetting appointment with my psychiatrist and wanted some advice please. Saw my psychiatrist who showed me a letter he wrote to my gp saying basically given my knowledge of antidepressants and having an opinion of what antidepressants I want to be prescribed that he suspects I might be doctor shopping, not being honest about what medications I am taking and wants to call the doctor shopping hotline to check my prescription history and wants a blood test to test for recreational drugs. I'm still getting over the shock but key points; Have not taken any recreational drug other than marijuana, last taken 17 years ago when I was 19! Rarely drink Have given him an accurate account of medications I have tried, all prescribed by my gp I do have a strong opinion on what I want to be prescribed as having had major depression for 17 years I know what has worked and what hasn't, plus I have done my own research, for instance on MAOI's which has led me to discover Ken Gillman from psychotropical.com.au. I am a strong advocate for patients being empowered and acting as their advocate and questioning/having input on their treatment. I am being responsible and am seeing a psychologist regularly for counselling and exercising. So my question is do I give my permission for him to access my prescription history or seek a new psychiatrist as the trust is clearly not there which makes it impossible to have an honest, open collaborative approach to my mental health. And one final question if anyone is still reading (sorry long rambling post). I am on Parnate currently and think I will need to augment this. I am interested in trying nortriptyline and or aripiprazole. Does anyone have experience with these who can share their experiences or anyone with a good knowledge of pharmacology care to offer some advice/opinions?
  2. I have ADD (on Adderall), and have suffered from depression for years. I have tried every med, but the one that worked best was Effexor. Problem was that I would get the withdrawal symptoms if I was an hour or two late with my dose. SNRI seems to be the way to go, but I don't want to be on Effexor, and both Cymbalta and Pristiq are too expensive (no insurance), and not available in generic. I am currently on Prozac, and was wondering if adding Wellbutrin would be a way to go. In other words, is an SSRI combined with Wellbutrin equal to an SNRI? Can I get the benefits of Effexor through the use of two meds? If so, what form of Wellbutrin is best... Extended release? Generic? Thanks so much for any help anyone cangive me.
  3. I am on abilify, lamictal, and lexapro. I just realized yesterday the cause of my sinus pressure runny and stuffy nose and occasional sneezing could be allergies. So my mom has given me an allergy pill to find out-it contains the following... acetaminophen, chlorpheniramine, and phenylephrine. Can I take it with my meds? Has anyone here had trouble? Has anyone taken them and are fine? I am know acetaminophen is fine. But what about the other 2?
  4. Hi, I am just taking 75mg of Nardil and with 25mg of Valdoxan(agomelatine) and l am planning to go up to 50 mg. My doctor assumes that this combo would help me better sleeping and also help to raise/improve my low blood pressure and also he believes that agomelatine to get me the same stimulant effect as on beginning of treatment. It would supposedly help me to activate and get me back energy feeling, because at 75 my Nardil therapy stopped working I wonder, if there is any psychological study/research about possibility of treatment option with Agomelatine + Nardil ? And then, Can you tell me again if there is any official study-research which does invalidate or prove success/effectiveness of this MAOIs (Phenelzine + Tranylcypromine) treatment option ? I am asking on this because my doctor recently has even mentioned about the possibility to get me on this combo - Nardil with Parnate. I have researched almost all the psychiatry sites with original articles but until now I have not found anything official. Now I am trying to get some informations from these sites : -http://archpsyc.ama-assn.org -http://search.psychiatrist.com -http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed -http://www.druglib.com ... Thank you in advance for any advice or help! P.S: Sorry, my English is not very good, I already slowly forget what I have learnt from english :/
