  1. Hi everyone, I’m on 750 mg of Lithium ER and have been for a few years. I never really noticed weight gain. If my dose was increased to 900 mg do you think it’s possible I’d see an increase in weight? What’s your personal experience. Did you see weight gain? If so, what dose? Thank you 💜
  2. https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/the-british-journal-of-psychiatry/article/clomipramine-tryptophan-and-lithium-in-combination-for-resistant-endogenous-depression-seven-case-studies/F3A1B19433959744DCF32C36C7B4A28F# Unquestionably an extreme combination, but it seems to exhibit powerful antidepressant effects. Clomipramine on its own is regarded by many as maybe the most powerful non-MAOI antidepressant, at least in clinical practice and inpatient care, although the side effects can be quite rough, but combined with Tryptophan and Lithium it seems to be further boosted in its e
  3. Hi guys, just started Lithium yesterday. I know it can take several weeks to work, but I already feel it clearing my head a bit. question tho. Can lithium make anxiety worse in the beginning - like SSRI’s? Because I now find myself very panicky I am also on lexapro and mirtazapine.
  4. Just wondering. I have a lot of anxiety and am startinh lithium for bipolar disorder in a few weeks
  5. I don’t know if anyone has info on this or not, but here goes. I’ve looked through the internet and couldn’t find anything. Does anyone know if taking lithium can affect. DTC (direct to consumer) DNA testing (Ancestry, etc.)? I’ve read some chemo meds may affect it, and that things such as denture adhesive can affect the quality but not change the test. What about lithium? Just asking since my results do show DNA matches at 2nd-3rd cousins on both maternal and paternal lines and way beyond but nothing on people closely related to me who’ve also tested. I’m certainly related to my parent
  6. Hi guys, So I've been depressed and have had severe anxiety for 3 years. Antidepressants make me hypomanic (kinda) and triggers unstable mood. I don't fit in the usual description of bipolar, but there is definitely something not right about the way i react to antidepressants - feeling high, warm, racing thoughts x 100, gets overly chatty etc. I've tried the following moodstabilizers Lamotrigine (disaster) Trileptal Gabapentin Abilify (made me hypomanic) Seroquel (made me hypomanic) Depakote/valproate (still taking) This depression is
  7. I was discharge from the Psych hospital on November 9th. While in the hospital they started me on lithium to manage the bipolar and also suicidal ideations. Since I have felt horrible my side effects: -internal restlessness (akathesia)- I take a bath 2-4x a day to help my body calm down. -weight gain -acne and skin going from very soft to rough -irritability -social anxiety -labile emotions (crying at everything to road rage when people drive like jerks) -inability to focus and work -sexual dysfunction (goes with the akathesia) -headaches and nausea
  8. I will try to keep this brief. I was always depressed and my senior year of college (a year ago) I had a major psychotic break where I literally thought I was flying through the universe. I was hospitalized in for two weeks, and I have been trying to fine tune my meds. I am working closely with my Pdoc, but am getting very discouraged. Any input would be appreciated. Lithium is what brought be out of my mania, and I have been on 900mg er every since. I have gone thru Latuda. Could only get to 60 mg. I took with food, but still felt ill most of the time. Cannot take Lamictal
  9. So I know I’m not to take nsaids with lithium as it can increase lithium levels and wreak havoc, including toxicity, seizures, etc. Problem is, I’m in bad pain and can’t take anything. Went to dr. I tore the meniscus in my knee and messed up my hip and back (already had herniated discs but they’d been doing well). Being active brought me out of a year-long depression and I don’t want to give up and be the blob in bed I used to be. But this pain is bad and Tylenol (acetaminophen) does nothing. The pdoc won’t lower my lithium dose so I can take some ibuprofen or something. Nobody has an answer t
  10. I have been a long time user of depakote, over 15 years and while it has done a fantastic job of helping to stabilize my moods, with the addition of geodon, I am unhappy with the major hair loss it has caused. My pdoc has recommended either lithium or vraylar as a substitute. Has anyone switched to either of these two meds from depakote? What are your experiences? Side effects? I am anxious to stop the hair loss but am afraid to give up the stability I have. Another concern is weight gain. I have recently lost 75 pounds of seroquel weight and am in no hurry to gain it back. I have
  11. I'm currently on Seroquel & Lamictal max doses and had a rather nasty mixed episode in June. My psychiatrist is now talking about adding a subclinical dose of lithium. Has anyone had this combo? (I'm also on Welbutrin if it applies)
  12. I currently take 900mg of lithium and since I began years ago, I've taken it all at dinner. My current pdoc has changed the dosing, with 300mg at breakfast and 600mg at dinner. Since I started this new scheme, I feel off. I've been very snippy with my husband and am having trouble being productive. We just bought a new house and I'm not helping at all between hiring the painters and cleaners and packing up so we can be out of the rental by the end of the month. I also have a big event coming up next weekend, and I've started to think I should cancel it since I'm having so much troubl
  13. Hi, I'm a 43 yo guy who's been severely depressed since I was 19 and I'm amazed I'm still alive. Antidepressants (and there's very few I haven't tried, including the popular combos) either do nothing, make me more depressed or help partially for a few weeks and then poop-out. I've never had mania/hypomania (other than a period on Abilify). After my stay at an inpatient psych ward in February, a young PDoc added Lithium to my Nardil (which, incidentally has been my most successful med to date but now does nothing) on the hunch that I might be BP2-ish. Whilst I can't say I went "WOO I'
  14. Hey guys. I’ve been pretty stable on Depakote, but it sure does come with some undesirable side effects. Somehow it makes me feel overwhelmed. It’s kind of a brain fog 2.0 feeling. Also it haven’t helped much with my anxiety, and there’s still some depression left too. I’m also on 2 antidepressants and a small dose of gabapentin, with no luck. What are your experiences with lithium or seroquel? I do not want to feel like a zombie and also do not want to feel too flat or foggy
  15. Hi - does anyone know whether stopping Lithium can cause withdrawal effects? Especially if taken for many years, decades actually.
  16. I'm just curious because my levels didn't reach the right level until I was on 1,500, which seems a lot. How about you? (If you take it.)
  17. I've been on and off antipsychotics sporadically for the last 7 years since age 22 (since 2011). I'm extremely sensitive to them and have a very high response to every one I've been on. I've gained 145lbs from an increase in appetite and metabolic changes, have severe akathisia that is utterly insane and makes me want to cut my own legs off, I developed severe gynecomastia from Risperdal and Invega respectively (Won the Risperdal lawsuit, but no surgeon will touch me because of my weight), experience anxiety (The most on Abilify), fatigue, drowsiness, impotence (On Fanapt), anhedonia (From agg
  18. I was taking prozac for depression, .5mg klonopin daily for GAD, and lithium orotate for suicidal thoughts. I take rozerem at night for non24 sleep phase disorder. The prozac stopped working and so my pdoc switched me to lexapro but it made me exhausted all the time- i basically would sleep, wake up, eat a little, go back to sleep... after two weeks she’s switching me over to effexor instead. I am starting at the lowest dose, but I’m not sure when to take it- is this going to be a morning pill? right now i take the lithium and rozerem at bedtime, and was taking prozac, klonopin and then
  19. Hey all, First post here, so I'll get into it. I've been Diagnosed Bi Polar since a late teen. I've had some temporary relief, many doctors and some terrible effects from medication/episodes. All in all at the moment I was released from the psych ward several months ago in NC, where i lived on my own for almost 6 years, while now being shipped back to my mom's in VA at age 27. I am getting older and am being affected more and more with my Bi-Polar swings, severe anxiety, occasional sounds and negative voices and now anger. I'm seeing public health center now and they've kept me
  20. I've had two lousy psychiatrists in a row. I'm waiting to see a new psychiatrist, but in the mean time I'm not on prescription psych meds, and I'm managing myself with non-prescription remedies. Recently, I've tried 5-HTP, Benadryl, and Lithium Orotate. I have been getting this awful anxiety/panic feeling in my head. It feels awful, kind of like having a porcupine in my head. Also I've been a bit bipolar. Super excited to funeral quality sadness. Plenty of energy to mopey and want to rest all day. 5-HTP didn't work well. It kinda made me calm for a bit, but it made me feel kind of lik
  21. How long has your longest depression lasted? Was given BP1 dx a few months ago after MDD initial dx. It seems this depression doesn’t lift. The mania is under control but it seems nearly a year for the depression. Have tried many ADs but they make me manic. I’ve at least been able to go back to work and not just curl up all day but I’m struggling. Hard to find any motivation and am pretty hopeless. I just had blood work done for Lithium levels as I increased it over a month ago per pdoc’s orders and level stayed the same. TSH is up past normal now so wondering if thyroid may be causing some of
  22. Has anyone had migraines with aura (I call them sparkly amoebas) on lithium? Nothing new, just increased lithium per pdoc a few weeks back. Maybe it’s a coincidence. I’ve had 3 in 2 days. Had them a few times years ago but not since. It really messes up my vision and hurts so I stayed home from work. It then morphs into just a headache. I’m drinking lots of water. High stress at work, as usual.
  23. I’m currently on trileptal for hypomania, but it has made me really depressed... so i’m looking for another med to control hypomania. already tried lamotrigine and neurontin. thinking next stop will be either depakote or lithium. I’m really afraid of weight gain and of feeling too flat (zombie-like). Which will you recommend? Any experiences you can share?
  24. I haven't had full-blown mania since starting lithium a few months ago after BP1 dx. Pdoc increased the dose a couple weeks ago but I went back to the previous dose because it makes me too tired at work, no matter when I take it. Yesterday I increased it to what pdoc prescribed, as I noticed getting those old irritated, p*ssed off feelings I hadn't had in a while. I was a b*tch at work and not my usual self. I could tell trouble was brewing. My anxiety became far worse. Last evening was tough: super agitated, angry at basically everything, and desperately wanting to cut off my hair (which I've
  25. So I am in quite a nasty situation. Over 3 months ago I was able to kick my addiction to heroin with therapy and Suboxone. Also, I successfully got my bipolar II under control with Lithium ER 900mg and Seroquel XR 300mg. For the last 6 weeks I am having fragmented sleep. I am able to fall asleep relatively easily only to wakeup after 2hrs. I then go back to sleep and from then on I wake up roughly 5 times a night. I've eliminated all caffeine from diet, I don't smoke cigarettes within 2hrs of bed and I don't watch TV or use any other screen before retiring. My addiction spec
