  1. Has anyone has experienced weight gain with Emsam, at about 6-9 mg? I've been on antidepressants since I was about 12 (am now 45) and have taken essentially everything under the sun with mixed results. I'm interested now in trying the Emsam patch, but I am terrified of gaining weight. I gained a lot on both Nardil and Parnate, so I am leery any MAOI that claims to be "weight neutral". Water retention is a concern as well...I'm hoping that given that it's a patch and enters directly into the bloodstream, chances of water retention or an effect on glucose or metabolism might be lower. Does anyone have experiences to share? Any insight would be appreciated!
  2. So I was under the impression that Parnate was a weight-friendly drug, and if anything, would be liable to cause weight loss. So far, my impressions have been very wrong if this is indeed the culprit of my weight gain. I started Parnate 1/5/17. On 1/3/17 I weighed 217.7 lb. I rapidly gained weight despite no diet changed until now, 4/6/17, and I weigh 263 lb. That's a difference of 45.3 lb over 4 months. That's pretty profound to me, anyway, as I've never had this much weight gain from a medicine before... My question is has anyone else been on Parnate and had any degree or this degree of weight gain? I'm thinking about going off of it, which is a shame because it's the best antidepressant I've ever been on so far, but then again I've started not to respond to it as well as I used to. I've been taking it with a stimulant of some form or another (before Adderall, now Adipex, and no weight loss has happened at all). This is extraordinarily frustrating for me because it was either last summer or two summers ago that I got down to 172.6 lb, just pounds away from my goal weight of 160 lb. I've never been this heavy before in my life, and I have to take muscle relaxants because my back actually hurts just by carrying all this extra weight around...
  3. I'm currently on the Emsam 9 mg/24 hr patch plus Adderall XR 40 mg to potentiate it, and it doesn't seem to be doing its job at all. I am completely anhedonic, find no pleasure in doing anything I used to do, and my friends and family have even noted that I am quieter and don't talk much at all anymore. What's strange is that I also seem to randomly snap at people for no apparent reason from time to time (which I don't even see coming, and it happens very seldom, but enough to be troublesome). I must confess that I've resorted to wearing two 6 mg patches to get 12 mg for a few days at a time, and I seemed to feel a little bit better, but not very much—if that's the case, if I did step up to the 12 mg patch, I wonder just how much benefit I would actually get out of it? Should I stick with Emsam and go up to the 12 mg patch before switching to something else, or ditch the Emsam and switch to something else? If I switch to something else, I was thinking about Parnate. I don't want to take Nardil because of the associated weight gain, sedation, hepatotoxicity, and vitamin B6 deficiency. Marplan I believe also causes hepatotoxicity and vitamin B6, but I can't seem to find anything that says for sure whether it causes sedation or weight gain, so I'm on the fence about that one. I have idiopathic hypersomnia and am prediabetic, so sedation and weight gain are both nono's for me. Parnate I've heard is quite stimulating and can even cause weight loss. Even though it's conventionally contraindicated, my pdoc would likely add a stimulant to the Parnate after I get settled with the dosage to help with my IH and ADHD and to potentiate the antidepressant effects of the Parnate. Can anyone share their Emsam and/or Parnate experiences please? It would be much appreciated. Thanks!
  4. I've taken all the antidepressants and am now working my way through the MAOIs. I started with Parnate and uptitrated to 60 mg by October 1, 2013. Now I'm having poop-out. I asked in another thread about augmenting with dopamine agonists (Requip, Mirapex) but here I am interested in people who have taken Nardil or Marplan. It seems Nardil is the "high side effect MAOI". Is that true? I've also repeatedly heard that Parnate is activating while Nardil is sedating. That will be strange for me, as I found Parnate quite sedating, and had to take naps every afternoon to be able to function. I keep hearing/reading good things about Marplan. Anyone taking that? I'm super interested in your experiences!
  5. anyone here taking parnate? i just started three days ago, and i'm still nervous about it. if anyone has any experience to share, i'd be very grateful. thanks!
  6. Hi, I am just taking 75mg of Nardil and with 25mg of Valdoxan(agomelatine) and l am planning to go up to 50 mg. My doctor assumes that this combo would help me better sleeping and also help to raise/improve my low blood pressure and also he believes that agomelatine to get me the same stimulant effect as on beginning of treatment. It would supposedly help me to activate and get me back energy feeling, because at 75 my Nardil therapy stopped working I wonder, if there is any psychological study/research about possibility of treatment option with Agomelatine + Nardil ? And then, Can you tell me again if there is any official study-research which does invalidate or prove success/effectiveness of this MAOIs (Phenelzine + Tranylcypromine) treatment option ? I am asking on this because my doctor recently has even mentioned about the possibility to get me on this combo - Nardil with Parnate. I have researched almost all the psychiatry sites with original articles but until now I have not found anything official. Now I am trying to get some informations from these sites : -http://archpsyc.ama-assn.org -http://search.psychiatrist.com -http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed -http://www.druglib.com ... Thank you in advance for any advice or help! P.S: Sorry, my English is not very good, I already slowly forget what I have learnt from english :/
