  1. I'm struggling to adjust my Ritalin dosage. It really helps with cognition/focus (and even mood balance), pdoc recently increased my dose. I take 30mg (LA) morning, and now 10mg (LA) in late afternoon. I'm OK on morning dose until about 2pm after I eat lunch...then energy really tapers off, I start to get more distracted, then I take afternoon dose by 4pm. The afternoon dose makes me immediately sleepy. This effect seems really paradoxical! Is there something I can do to reduce this? Caffeine?? IR form only lasts like 2 hours & I crash, so I want to avoid that. Where I live, its tough to get anything other than Ritalin... I read that some stimulants (such as Ritalin & Adderall) are better for reducing Hyperactivity - which may be why I feel so sleepy/dazed when taking it in afternoons? I've never been hyperactive.... Would Vyvanse be better in this regard (helping with both focus + causing less sleepiness)?
  2. I'm sorry if this question is redundant.... @notloki I know you're knowledgeable here. I've been getting very inconsistent effects from Ritalin. I recently increased my dosage, because I was experiencing more fatigue afternoons and having to nap. I take 20mg (extended in morning, before I get up), then I take 10mg (extended) after lunch. Pdoc said I could take 10mgIR no later than 3pm if needed. I'm compliant with this routine. Dose 40 minutes before getting up, same exact breakfast every morning: oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, nuts, coffee. Yesterday, I felt pretty good and energetic in the morning (both mentally and physically). Then today, I feel focused..yet, (sort of zombie-dazed staring at screen), incredibly drowsy/tired and apathetic, like I really need to nap. I get plenty of sleep every night. Is there a reason this is happening? Seems doses effect me differently all the time. I prefer extended because the IR (while it hits more noticeably) I feel more intense energy crash and can become moody...Note: Pdoc will not let me change until I hit the max (60mg), and other stimulants (even Adderall) are either extremely hard or impossible to get prescribed here.
  3. Started using my new fitness tracker. Tracks sleep & heartrate also. I'm not sure how accurate it is (500 great reviews said it was). But I'm quite worried with results I'm getting. My resting Heartrate jumps around erratically from 70-100. After sitting at breakfast it's like 90-115. I am healthy weight/slim, eat really well, usually fit (though really inactive last 3-4 mos). Literally, when I woke up today (before any meds), I tracked, and it jumped all around from 68-95. I hadn't even got out of bed!! The other day, I did 5 minutes of jumping jacks, then tested....it was 120-130, heart pounding in ears, really tight chest, with slight cough/phlegm congestion in throat....I do some stretching, forward bends then feel very dizzy. Is this normal or am I just really out of shape? I have low blood pressure and when I run lately, HR goes up to 180 which is max. Is this dangerous? @mikl_pls ? How long do you have to be doing fitness in order to get it down to fit/normal?? Oh, too add, I did an ECG a couple years ago, and nothing abnormal was found. Also did a "Fitness test" on a bike with oxygen mask (5 years ago though) doctor just said I was unfit.
  4. Pdoc FINALLY upped Ritalin (LA) to 30mg in morning, and I take 10mg (IR) in afternoon. Been on consistently about 1.5 years (note, it’s a real pain to get it here, they treat it like street meth & it’s the most benign stimulant!!) I have bad energy crashes within 5 hours, then crave chocolate (which I usually dislike), I have more coffee. The IR 10mg in afternoon seems to do nothing. Trying the 20mg IR in afternoon, which might be better, but wears off in 2 hours, I don’t want to mess up my sleep or jack up my heart rate. Note, I’m not taking for ADD (but for depression add-on) my physical energy, alertness & motivation just crashes now. I just get tired & need to nap. Any ideas? (I’m 50kg) Pdoc says they dose per kg, usually 50mg-60mg max for me. If I increase again, I’ll quickly be screwed (it initially worked so well!). I know Adderall is more potent, but worried about neurotoxicity and irreparable brain damage when I eventually go off (don’t plan on being on forever). I’ve heard Adderall is more “speedy” and can be agitating as well.
  5. I am taking stimulants for numerous reasons--primarily for ADHD and idiopathic hypersomnia, but also because I'm obese and trying to lose weight (with diet and exercise of course) and because amphetamines heretofore have been the only thing that really make me a functioning human being. I was curious though. From y'all's experience, which stimulant inhibited appetite and/or caused more weight loss, that is, between Ritalin (and all their products), Focalin, Adderall, Dexedrine, or some other stimulant. I have actually even taken Desoxyn, twice, and to be honest, it's nowhere near as potent as Adderall or Dexedrine. To my understanding, appetite inhibition can be extricable from weight loss; i.e., one can lose weight from a medicine without experiencing much appetite suppression, one can experience drug-induced anorexia without losing much weight, or both at the same time, or neither. IME, so far, this is what I've experienced... I'll list the stimulant/anorectic and max dose taken. Appetite suppression/anorexia: Dexedrine (60 mg) Adderall (60 mg) Dexedrine Spansules (30 mg) Adipex-P (37.5 mg) Adderall XR (90 mg) Wellbutrin IR/SR/XL (450-500 mg) Bontril-PDM (210 mg) Tenuate (75 mg) Desoxyn (15 mg) Vyvanse (70 mg) Adzenys XR-ODT Metadate CD (20 mg) Ritalin (30 mg) Focalin XR (25 mg) Evekeo (20 mg) Belviq XR (20 mg) Tenuate Dospan (75 mg) Contrave (32 mg/360 mg) Weight loss: Dexedrine (60 mg) Adderall (60 mg) Adipex-P (37.5 mg) Tenuate (75 mg) Dexedrine Spansules (30 mg), Adderall XR (90 mg) Wellbutrin IR/SR/XL Desoxyn (15 mg) Bontril-PDM (210 mg) Metadate CD (20 mg) Belviq XR (20 mg), Evekeo (20 mg), Focalin XR (25 mg), Ritalin (30 mg), Vyvanse (70 mg) Contrave (32 mg/360 mg), Tenuate Dospan (75 mg), Adzenys XR-ODT So I've not tried very high doses of the (dex)methylphenidate meds, and have been curious about trying a higher dose (40-60 mg, maybe higher). Focalin might be okay, but it gave me tremors, anxiety, and panic attacks at 25 mg. Vyvanse did nothing much at all except jack my resting heart rate up to 120+ BPM. This list was very hard to compile, and I don't really know if it's too accurate. I'm heavily considering trying methylphenidate again, specifically Metadate CD, because I actually felt something on it as opposed to regular Ritalin. I was considering asking my NP for a Metadate CD dose of 30-60 mg, or maybe 30 mg x2 or something like that, with some Ritalin 5-10 mg, maybe 20 mg, to take 1/2-1 up to three times per day prn. The tried and true med is Dexedrine for me, specifically the IR, but I want to give that a break for a little while. I'm curious to see how (dex)methylphenidate affects my ADHD more than it affects my weight loss/appetite suppression as well. I know this post was rather scattered and long, but if you made it through it, any input would be much appreciated!
  6. So I've been taking an added afternoon dose of Ritalin (10mg IR) the last few days. I usually take only 20mg (extended) in morning, but was told I could add a bit in afternoon (for boost) if necessary. I literally feel more tired/drained after taking it. WTH. I don't regularly take any afternoon dose, so why would it have already pooped out? I feel like coffee gives me more of a boost that this! Grrr. I hate to take double, because my pdoc didn't prescribe it that way. I also don't want to effect my sleep (I have no sleep issues at moment) Why is it making me so tired? This afternoon dose is not apparently working at all? Does this mean I actually need more?
  7. I often travel internationally and I've made several longer-term international moves. I bring my doctors current original prescription, and try to request a dated letter which lists my monthly medication regimen, current dosage and diagnosis. My concern is: I have "stockpiled" additional stimulants (@2 months worth now) due to the fact that I move frequently, have gaps in medical insurance and don't have regular access to see my psychiatrist in person. Someday soon, I will need to switch doctors and in my experience, he's been the only pdoc that will prescribe me stimulants (and insurance means, no out of pocket cost right now). I'm worried about traveling through the airport and being stopped as a "drug trafficker" due to having 2-3 months worth of extra prescription of schedule 2 drug on me, all at once. Any advice? What do authorities do in this case - do they call your psychiatrist to verify, before you can fly?
  8. Just to preface, I don't take Ritalin for ADHD...it's more for Depression, motivation, procrastination, mental stamina purposes. Has anyone found that you get TOO focused on it? Maybe because I don't actually have ADHD, but I start working on 1 thing and become OBSESSIVELY focused on it (like it brings out the uber perfectionist in me). I forget to eat, I don't take breaks from my desk, and then my brain just shuts off from exhaustion. At the end, I've accomplished only 1-2 tasks. I have great difficulty switching tasks or getting all "priority" things done, because I get so stuck on working for HOURS on the same little thing! Basically, my processing speed is much slower, I can't adjust to "fast paced" situations, because I mull on things, make revisions over & over & over etc. On the other hand, if i go without taking it, I lay around, procrastinate, lack all motivation, and I'm unable to start anything at all. Not sure how to solve this? Do other stimulants work in the same way?
  9. Hoping someone can offer some insight to what is happening with me? I've been taking Ritalin consistently over a year again. Pulled me out of a bad anhedonia - I'm focused, motivated and goal driven. Mood was great the last 5 months. Now, I'm having intense meltdowns in the afternoon/eve. Stress-related. Internal pressure to succeed. I've lost many years to depression, being unproductive (was even bed-ridden from episodes).I've worked REALLY hard to pull out, and had one of the best 5-month "good periods" in a long time. I'm afraid of going back to that... I wonder if the Ritalin is in fact causing mood swings now. I get crying spells: stress, perfectionism, anxiety, irritability. I know everyone here will probably suggest adding an antidepressant again, but to be honest the A/Ds increase my apathy and anhedonia (I have Double depression - chronic low mood/no pleasure, with intermittent severe episodes). I don't know what to do, this seems to be stress-related as I've been so focused on Ritalin and wearing myself down. My main coping mechanism lately is studying, reading, working, writing as much as possible to distract myself from my unrelenting unhappiness with my life and myself. Basically, nothing is fun or enjoyable for me, I can't enjoy going for walks, hobbies or even watching tv series. I think the Ritalin has motivated me (good) but I've become a workaholic robot who only gets satisfaction from output, accomplishing goals and achieving perfection. I feel like a complete FAILURE if I'm not learning or working the entire day until bedtime!!! Is this similar to a Hypo or "Mixed" episode?? I don't want doc to label me as Bipolar and then quit prescribing Ritalin.
  10. Hello, amigos. It’s day 3 on Ritalin SR 20 once a day, finally prescribed after « doctor shopping » and faulty antidepressant tryouts. It kicked in right away however I did take a nap today shortly after taking it but that’s probably my body’s usual reaction to fighting off anything new to the system. It worked right away which is a miracle!!!!!! I have the worst job in the world which is dishwashing in my family’s restaurant, basically waiting to die. Well! Let me tell you, the soul crushing agony of a wasted 41 year old woman’s life were momentarily alleviated by focus, order, and execution. I just got on with it. S’ppose it coulda been a Placebo (great band) effect but I’ll take it. Having run the gamut of, oh, every antidepressant to no avail, the last being Trintellix, which after a month left me exhausted, though I’M SURE it would’ve worked after six weeks ? So experienced créatives,my questions to you are: Has adding an antidepressant to your current stimulant (preferably Ritalin) made you exhausted/fried and if so for how long? Is Prozac a lost cause, especially according to Dr Charles Parker ? Ixnay on Celexa, Citalopram, Abilify, Viibryd, Trintellix, Cymbalta, Effexor...those last three were great for a 2 or so months then I slept all day, modalert didnt make a dent..Zoloft I would say I’ve had the most success with but maybe I should do the Ritalin for a couple months before reintroducing? And finally, Wellbutrin was great until the Cicadas in my head....I.E Tinnitus made me want to inpatient myself. Thank you!! tl;dr dx’ed MDD, no bipolar traits and other failed depression treatments include Valdoxan (Agomelatine), Doxepin, Celexa was a goddamn disaster. I aint doin’ no MAOI’s, thanks. Also I live in France and Ritalin was extremely difficult to get prescribed. Thanks, Steph
  11. i've been having this thing where my eating disorder and adhd kind of combine forces: i'll take 10mg ritalin LA (+150mg bupropion) in the morning, not feel hungry all day, then when it wears off and i get hungry again i overeat, feel guilty, and struggle not to vom. tbh even if it's a normal amount of food i'll feel bloated and want to vom. sometimes i'll try to get myself to eat while the medication's still in effect by smoking weed, but i end up b/ping almost 100% of the time. i'm seeing my psychiatrist soon so i'll discuss this with them, but i'm curious if anyone else has had these experiences.
  12. I just re-instated Ritalin (after about a 3-month break) My pdoc said I could "play" with the dosage a bit, because I was previously on a low dose (20mg extended morning, sometimes added 10mgIR afternoons). Problem is, coverage is very inconsistent. I've started loads of focus-intensive work/required research/reading projects, and I really depend on it more to function in this role. I'm getting really varied effects from it...not sure what to do. It helps me focus on detailed tasks - and I start out feeling no appetite/nauseous (which is normal effect, I always eat decent breakfast like oats/yogurt/water, about 40 minutes after taking it), but then I'm starving like 3 hours later, and really physically tired fairly quickly (on extended dose)...I took a 10mgIR dose (after eating lunch, feeling physically tired) and I can still mentally focus fine, but still feel very tired, like I need to lay down and I'm still abnormally hungry!! Is it simply not working as it should, or am I metabolising too fast? I'm not sure how to adjust my dosage or what works best for you guys? Really bummed out, I need this to work. I don't want to be popping it like candy all day!
  13. Since I've been on Effexor for 7 months, I've had zero emotional depressive symptoms (like the crying, sadness etc) negative ruminations have lessened, no anxiety whatsoever either... Issue is, I've become more & more lethargic. I sleep a full 10 hours per night and then I cannot get out of bed. I'm not really tired, I just literally cannot get myself to do anything. I am super content just laying in bed for hours. I read crap online for hours, I often take 2 hour naps in afternoon. It pains me to take a shower & go outside. I procrastinate on work/everything... I avoid doing things I need to do just so i can lay in bed! No interest, motivation, pleasure in anything. How can I light a "fire under my ass" again? The same issue happens with other meds that work for depression, but then they cause this! And no, my doc won't increase my Ritalin (which I have a tolerance to & it stopped working). She won't put me on any other stimulants which seem to be the only thing that help me in this state. Yes, I've tried Abilify add-on...not sure if I want to keep adding more meds or if there something better I can switch out in my situation? Seems my choice is to either be emotionally depressed or a complete apathetic sloth!!! Any ideas?
  14. Just an observation...I have had Ritalin (20mg extended) as part of my cocktail for maybe 9 months now. My pdoc advised me to take as needed during work week, with breaks on weekends to maintain the same efficacy. After several months, I was wondering if it was even doing anything at all...i mean, very early on, the increase in energy, or lack of appetite, high motivation went away, and I was often questioning whether it was actually doing anything anymore. Well I was wrong! Due to a date error on my prescription, I couldn't get it filled at the pharmacy and I've been off of it for a full 7 days now, waiting for a revised RX. I've felt much more tired this week, apathetic, major brain fog, lazy, it has been extremely difficult to get out of bed. (I didn't have work this morning, and I stayed in bed until noon! When I'm usually up at 8am)!! I am eating/snacking much more this week. Do you guys think this is all do to being off Ritalin 1 week? To note: I've also increased Effexor (112-150mg)...
  15. Ritalin has been helping me quite a bit with focus/cognition and "staying power" to complete mental tasks....Unfortunately, sometimes, I feel like I get way too Hyperfocused on 1 thing that is not important and I cannot switch my attention back to the important task/tasks that I need to do!! For example: i have a writing assignment due at work tomorrow (I have not started it) Instead, I come here and read way too many posts, then I start deeply researching online some other unrelated & obtuse topic and I just realized that I have wasted HOURS. I have totally procrastinated/avoided an obligation. Oh and also...very wierd, I'll write a long email to a friend, and then obsessively read it over & over & over again to make sure I didn't make a mistake!! Is that OCD or what? I also have noticed that my thoughts have been a little more obsessive - like hyperfocused/stuck on one topic/idea and it's difficult to switch gears. Is this bad? I don't want to have to go off the med because I do feel like it has really helped me. Now, I'm a bit worried (I did take more IR today, so perhaps that is why I'm getting this side effect?) Maybe I should just stick with the extended & not the IR dosing.
  16. I'm currently taking Vyvanse, and I've heard that straight amphetamine-based stimulants like Adderall and Vyvanse can be stronger stimulants than the methylphenidate class like Ritalin, Concerta (Ritalin XR), and Focalin. I'm considering talking to my doctor about something more mild, and I'm looking at the methylphenidates as an option. What I know about Adderall and Vyvanse is that there are differences. Even if Vyvanse is just the dextro- enantiomer of the amphetamine molecule. What I also know is that dextroamphetamine (along with lisdexamfetamine) has more of an effect on dopamine than levoamphetamine which is found mixed with dextroamphetamine in Adderall, and levoamphetamine has more of an effect on norepinephrine. Are there similar differences between methylphenidate and dexmethylphenidate? Where one may effect a certain neurotransmitter more than the other would? I'm curious specifically about pharmacology differences and even the slightest differences in mechanism of action. Curious as to what anyone might have to say here.
  17. I have been on Ritalin LA (20mg) for about 9 months, mainly as an add-on for depression/apathy. Pretty regular in taking it everyday. I've noticed within a month, it wasn't doing nearly as much (as far as increased motivation/energy/better mood), although my focus/concentration is still very good. Also, despite eating a similar diet (taking it on same schedule), it works really inconsistently, like somedays it does nothing at all.... I just took a week-long break from it during vacation, and now that I've restarted, the effect is better again. Is this normal for everyone with stimulants? My doc doesn't want to increase my dose. Maybe I should just start taking my additional IR PRN everyday or take week-long breaks? I worry about tolerance... Is IR taken twice per day more effective? I worry that if I just switch to IR dosing, i will feel a bit of a "crash" in between, it won't be as smooth...Any thoughts??
  18. From what I understand, RitalinSR is intermediate-acting (lasts up to 5 hours) where RitalinLA and Concerta are both longer-acting (like up to 8+ hours) Other than this, is there any other difference between the 2? Do you feel different on each of them? For me, with RitalinSR, the effect was fairly quick, peak action within 2 hours, but would wear off usually within 4 hours. The good thing though, was that I would get tired in the afternoon/early evening and sleep really really well. If I were to go on Concerta, would it wreck my sleep schedule?
  19. Please help. New to this board. Have NOT found effective treatment, spent long periods of time (not on any meds and fairly stable), but still always Depressed. Main issue severe Depression (along with some misc ADD-type issues) I’ve never experienced Mania. I had a SSRI-induced psychotic episode 20 years ago and for the last 5 yrs experiencing troublesome, erratic “cycling” of intense depression, anxiety, irritation/aggravation, passing suicidal thoughts, my doc thinks this is because my Bipolar is untreated & I need a mood stabilizer. Over the last 20 years, I have taken all of the SSRI’s, SNRI’s, Antipsychotics, Lithium, etc with intolerable side effects and horrible withdrawal syndromes...Ritalin is the only thing that helped my Depression & motivation issues (but since moving, no doctor will prescribe it to me.) Only med I agreed to try again right now is Lamictal due to it’s low side effect profile. I have some concerns though: 1.) Does it make you MORE tired (already struggle with low energy and fatigue)? 2.) Does it effect your Cognitive abilities (i.e. memory issues, ability to think sharply & quickly process info, I have focus/motivation issues!!)? 3.) Has anyone taken this during pregnancy with no issues? 4.) Has anyone taken Lamictal & Ritalin simultaneously to treat both the cycling and depression/inattention issues? 5.) Withdrawal - Been reading increasingly of bad cases of Withdrawal from Lamictal… has me very worried if I try to go off it!!!
  20. Newly diagnosed with Bipolar2 (predominantly depressed) My previous diagnosis was major depression. I'm now on a mood stabilizer (Lamictal) which is effective, but I want to get back on a stimulant (was on Ritalin) to help with ADD symptoms as needed for work. I have 20-years of chronic depression/increasing apathy that will not go away. I've been on the gamut of SSRI's and SNRI's, even Abilify and high-dose Wellbutrin for long periods, and none of these effectively targeted the depression, just gave me annoying side effects. I think I need something that directly targets Dopamine (not Serotonin or Norepinephrine). Problem is, i was never officially diagnosed as ADD as a child because this diagnosis was not common in the 70's (I have had the problematic symptoms my ENTIRE LIFE but untreated) No pdoc wants to prescribe me a stimulant, no one around does testing/diagnosis for Adult ADD. My question is: How many people here have been prescribed Stimulants since childhood? If not, and you have other co-morbid mood issues - How was it that you were prescribed a stimulant? Ritalin is the only med that noticeably helped me with no major side effects (was on 20mg for 9 months), but since I've run out (and newly diagnosed Bipolar2), no one will prescribe it. I've never had Mania, just some intense mood-cycling dips (never euphoria/enthusiasm, but the opposite: intense depression/dysphoria) which seems to be corrected by my mood stabilizer. Please give me your impression/thoughts.....I am very saddened to have finally found something that helps my major symptoms with no immediate side effects. I don't understand why doctors think stimulants are so detrimental/ineffective, yet they readily pass out dangerous/powerful antipsychotics & addictive benzos (to people that aren't even psychotic, schizophrenic or have panic disorder)?
  21. Bipolar2 (primarily depressed with short rapid-cycling spells of intense dysphoria, but never manic). Over the last 20 years, I have taken all of the SSRI’s, SNRI’s, Antipsychotics, Lithium, etc with intolerable side effects and horrible withdrawal syndromes. I had a med-induced psychotic episode 20 years ago which prompted my psych at the time to load me up with Antipsychotics, then added Antidepressants which made me much, much worse (I was either sedated, exhausted & brain-dead, or a restless/anxious insomniac). I could not remain on meds due to all of the side effects i had (with no benefit!!) The acute psychosis eventually resolved within weeks (and a hospital stay), however, the side effects & lengthy withdrawal syndrome from all of the meds rendered me practically disabled until I was off of everything and recovered. The ONLY med that has really touched my Depression/lack of interest/no motivation/no pleasure has been Ritalin SR which NO DR WILL PRESCRIBE anymore (I moved, doctors here are against stimulant treatment for Depression or Bipolar). I actually slept very soundly when taking it and experienced very little irritability. I took strictly as prescribed along with breaks on weekends for about 8 months. I felt motivated, focused, calm, productive and highly functioning, which in turn alleviated much of my depression and anxiety. I was on Lamictal 10 years ago, it took away the intense mood cycling, but it didn’t do anything for my underlying depression and noticeably slowed my cognitive abilities (major brain fuzziness, forgetfulness, spaciness, clumsiness). I've started Lamictal yet again to see if it helps. Has anyone else here been in this predicament??? I'm afraid the Lamictal with balance my mood but it will not treat my main underlying issue of Depression. I already have issues with disorganization and inattention which has cause me to be fired from several jobs. I have a feeling that the prolonged use of SSRIs & SNRIs depleted my Dopamine stores or something. Any similar experiences or advice here???!!
  22. Sup guys, I've had a diagnosis of Chronic Depersonalization and Derealizaiton Disorder since 2008. Since that time I've been on a steady regimen of Luvox, Klonopin, and Lamictal (which is recommended by the University of London for Chronic DP) - since that time I've been pretty stable. But in the best interest of trying to improve some things I've lowered my klonpin and lamictal successfully. I recently tried Adderal - which helped dramatically with my motivation, apathy, and keeping me away and not so sedated. But it exacerbated a facial pain syndrome I have. Next up was Ritalin - I felt great - not euphoric - but I just generally felt good- not depressed, motivated, and up all day for the first time in years. It also kept my ruminations and Depersonalization at bay. But again, anything that stimulates your central nervous system will exacerbate nerve pain - so I had to stop. My pdoc and I came up with a plan to - a) Lower my luvox (I currently take 150mg) so lower 50mg for 7 days - if I have no symptoms (which I didn't) begin using Straterra (to try) and see if it provides a similar benefit to the ritalin. I tried the Straterra - lasted 2 days. I experienced exacerbation of what I think is mania - I've never been compulsive - only a lot of ruminations. But now I"m having songs playing constantly in my head, conversations going over and over in my head, drifting off into space, and so on. A few days after stopping the straterra I went back up on my Luvox to the 150mg dosage (I had been down to 100mg for 9 days) even though I don't think Luvox was the culprit, I figured I need to have a reference point to get back to - I have been on this regimen for years - since 2012 at least - so I know how I felt and have a reference point. Since going back to 150 mg of Luvox I feel slightly better but I'm not where I was. Its been a week. Since I've never stopped the Luvox the 50mg should have gone straight into my system? Why isn't it working? And if (and I"m assuming given what i've been thru with psychiatry) that straterra and luvox can have these affects - how long will it last to get back to normal. Anyone have simliar experiences?
  23. In the last four months I've moved from a Vyvanse/Adderall pairing, which was gradually making me more and more anxious, as well as leaving my heart constantly pounding, to a Concerta/Ritalin pairing. While I find the effects of Concerta and Ritalin far more smooth, I'm having almost the opposite problem with these stimulants than the prior ones. Fatigue. At first I thought I was simply sleepy, but when I'd lay down to -try- and sleep, I'd just lay there in a dozing lull. Increasing the dose helped somewhat, however this is still a symptom that annoys me. Feedback? Anyone? Bueller?
  24. hey guys. i`ve been on ritalin for 7+ years now. i wasn`t treated for ADHD when I was a kid and i was diagnosed with distymia (and many times, double depression) since i was 17, with one psychriatric saying it was even some kind of depressive personality disorder (i have been always been like that - always on the down side). after trying a bunch of meds for depression I developed panic syndrome. they would happen first weekly and then, daily and i`d go to sleep thinking i was going to die and living every day thinking i was dying. anxiety with chest pain and numb left arm, sweating and tachycardia. the trigger? feeling my heart beat rise. every day i was having panic attacks after taking ritalin, it was expecially worse after eating. my BP would go as high as 18/14 and the heart beat used to go between 140-160 during the attacks, before that it would be always on the low side - even ritalin never affected that before panic started. after getting paxil, it got better. took it for 2 years but the side effects became too much for me to handle. after 2 years of no panic attacks (of course it wasn`t all beautiful and flowers, the fear of having another attack was too difficult for me to handle - but i could work again), i stopped for almost one year and the panic attacks came back. i tried pristiq and used that for another 2 years - the pros were that i could have a decent life but the anxiety was still there. my BP rose a bit, like 12/8 usually. but taking it with ritalin can still be a bit tricky, i have to split the 10mg one and take every 2 hours and hope to not feel the tachycardia. i wanted to stop with the pristiq and switched to prozac for one month but i couldnt go without it in the end. i went back to pristiq cause i was being too useless at my job. i take 25 mg of ritalin per day and 50mg of pristiq. i was wondering, does anyone here have experience with pristiq and adderall? i still feel sleepy with ritalin (and adderall is not approved in my country of origin - but it is in the one i`ve been living for the past years). are there many chances it`ll trigger panic attacks and anxiety even more than ritalin? doubts are, go to pristiq + adderall; prozac + adderall or keep on this way? i`ll see the doctor tomorrow, but there`s too many doubts in my head right now. also, i noticed that ritalin + high carb foods trigger it like nothing else. ritalin by itself can be okay most of the times. thanks a lot and i`m sorry if i wrote it in the wrong part.
  25. Okay, back in Winter 2011 I got into prescription painkillers. I had just had a major surgery and was prescribed hydrocodone to deal with pain. I started out okay but I noticed that taking this med not only lessened the pain, it also took away my anxiety which I had struggled with all my life. So long story short I went from hydrocodone 5mg to oxycodone 15mg abuse by early summer 2012. I ended up in trouble in August 2012 and my use of these meds was cut drastically. I did, however, continue to take them when I got my hands on them all the way up to September of 2013. Heck, for most of 2013 I also was abusing my neurontin prescription but something clicked in September of last year and I just let it all go. I quit Neurontin and I have taken an oxycodone once since then. Fast forward to now and I have just started college and have been put on ritalin and these past few days I have taken one or two more than i am supposed to because it literally wears off after two hours. It does not give me that feeling that painkillers did but I am afraid that I am going to get addicted and I do not want that. This med (ritalin) helps me greatly and makes me feel like a person but it just isn't lasting like I had hoped. I guess my question is this; In your opinion, should I just stop while I am ahead and not take this medicine even if it is helping me? The last thing I want is another addiction but I also do not want to fail another semester at school (already failed 4).
