I've been taking Brintellix for a month and a half now. This med enhances cognitive functioning a lot. Works very mildly on social anxiety but made SD much much worse. No sensations down there whatsoever. I know Wellbutrin helps with SD but my doctor refused to prescribe it. I guess he doesn’t want me to enjoy sex. No Wellbutrin, MAOIs (actually they’re not sold where I live), TCAs. Only SSRIs or SNRIs. So I have no other option. The only med for SA I’ve tried thus far is Paxil regular and CR version, and for a brief period Prozac which made me feel very anxious. Paxil CR only causes delay in orgasm which could be for its slow release. Haven’t tried Zoloft, but because it has the same working mechanism as Paxil (in the aspect of treating SA), I don’t want to try it. My situation is unbearable right now. I have anhedonia, another SSRI WD symptom. Anhedonia means I’m not motivated to look for jobs, have friends, listen to music, search for a partner or even care for how I look. I get no pleasure from doing these activities. P.S I’m thinking of trying Luvox as I’m told it has less sexual side effects.
plimsoul posted a topic in Antidepressants - If You're Crappy and You Know ItI have been on Brintellix for 5 weeks. 1 week at 5 mg and now 10 mg for 4 weeks. I have been tapered off Zoloft for 1 week. Used Zoloft for 6 years. Currently taking 12.5 mg of Zoloft. Will taper completely off in another 2 weeks. I am a 49 year old male and my side effects of Brintellix are as follows: Short term memory loss for the first week. Itching in hands and arms off and on since 2 weeks. Cortizone cream helps with the itching. My libedo is completely gone. With Zoloft I noticed the similar sexual but not as drastic as I was tapering up on zoloft. After about 6 weeks, the sexual side effects were noticeably better with Zoloft. Does anyone have any similar issues with sexual side effects and does it get better after a 6 - 8 weeks?
Hi All, I was wondering if anyone here has made the switch from Lexapro (or any other SSRI) to Luvox to alleviate some/all sexual dysfunction caused by another. I am currently taking Lexapro for GAD/PD and it both does not control the anxiety as well as chemically castrates me. My doctor is in the process of doing a very slow cross-taper (I still have very little, if any, sexual functioning at this point) because anecdotally he states that there is less sexual dysfunction associated with Luvox due to an unknown or yet-to-be elucidated mechanism of action - perhaps action at the sigma-1 receptor site? He also stated that Luvox is great for anxiety disorders and most don't typically have to take the maximum 300mg/day dosage to get relief - even when the anxiety disorder/disorders are severe - which may explain why there are less people who suffer from intolerable sexual sides on Luvox. Both crazymeds and wikipedia state that Luvox is associated with less sexual dysfunction and this seems to be backed by anecdotes, although just as many anecdotes lay claim to pretty much every other SSRI with the exception of Paxil. I had been taking, prior to starting the cross-taper, 20mg of Lexapro without adequate relief and immense sexual dysfunction. Completely devastating as it obliterates my dating prospects at a time when people are starting to settle down (I'm 27). Now, I know that SSRI usage is highly idiosyncratic in that what works for one may not work for another and one individual may suffer from intolerable sexual side effects on one SSRI while another may be sexually fine on the same medication. That said, has anyone found Luvox to be less harsh in this regard? How much were you taking? Any/all experiences/input welcome, including alternative medications that may be less harsh on sexual functioning. I am desperate here! Help needed!! Addendum: I should add that augmentation strategies are also welcomed. Memantine/Namenda and tiagabine/Gabitril are two that may be helpful for anxiety, allowing me to reduce the SSRI dose. Anyone think of any others?
