themind
I'm sure this has been asked before...but here's my situation I'm switching from 50 mg of zoloft to prozac. It's been 2 weeks and I'm tapered off the zoloft and am up to 40 mg of prozac now. The first week with prozac, I felt GREAT. I felt so much better. Now it's leveling out, and I'm having ANGER....and anxiety...has anyone else experienced this? Not anger where I want to hurt anyone or myself, just like I'm fucking pissed at existence and I am usually passive. I've had 2 anxiety attacks. Granted, I've got situational influences (therapy and romantic relationships) that could be contributing to anger..... I'm just wondering if you guys think this will pass. I have an appt with pdoc next week.

I have an appt with pdoc next week. You were on a low dose of zoloft, and are now on the equivalent of about 100mg zoloft, so that could be a factor. Rage is actually mentioned as an uncommon side effect of prozac in particular. I have always suspected that this is probably a manic reaction in bipolar patients, but who knows for sure? Out of interest, I just switched over from paxil to prozac around 2 weeks ago. I was on 60mg paxil and am now on 80mg prozac. About the same effective dose. Im finding it really good generally speaking. Its possible that you might need a lower dose, and its also quite possible that this feeling will pass over time. Prozac is one of the more stimulating ssri's, despite being a less powerful inhibitor of serotonin reuptake (as opposed to say paxil). I believe zoloft is the most stimulating, however. Best thing is to try to stay cool, keep a record of how, when and where you felt this way, and report it to your p-doc at your next appointment. By the way, what is your dx? Are you bipolar by chance? I have schizophrenia but seem to be responding well to the prozac (along with my seroquel).
themind
I'm diagnosed with recurrent MDD and GAD. Perhaps this could be considered hypomania...but I'm not sure how one decides what is merely a side effect of starting up a new medication vs. actual mania. Penny Century
prozac made me a mean snarly violent horrid devil. given, i'm a bit snarly at heart to begin with, but i was mean as fuck on prozac, and i calmed the fuck down and the number of hurled objects in the house went down about 95% when i switched from prozac to another SSRI. two other of my relatives had the same issue with prozac, but both were fine on other SSRIS. (other relatives love prozac though.) but yeah, prozac made me angrier than normal, and it could be the prozac. (or the prozac plus your life stresses of course.) penny
