I was looking at a bottle the other day and it doesn't look too bad.  It has this stuff hoodia which is supposed to be really good, and green tea and such.  Says that is only has as much caffeine as 1/2 a cup of coffee.  I dunno - check it out. Trimspa ingredients Trimspa ingredient explanation

My last experience with pills like these was back in 96 when I took this stuff by Joe Weider "Fat Burner" and lost a bunch of weight and exercised like a mad woman until I started getting heart palpitations.  Then a few months later I started smoking pot, had a breakdown and gained 50lbs.  I don't know if/how everything is related.  I am concerned about the added energy thing fucking with my brain and making me all hypo and leading to a crash.  Probably a bad idea.

There was another thread on this recently. Normally I wouldn't do this, since I hate it when people tell me to look at other threads instead of making another post. I don't mean it that way. It is just there were some interesting links on the other thread and didn't want you to miss them.

Looking at the ingredients, the main one seems to be chromium -- which you can also get in a general vitamin/mineral supplement. Several of the "proprietary blend" things are simply caffeine from different sources. Cheaper to drink a lot of coffee, or hot chocolate since some of it comes from cocoa. As for the hoodia, the amount that makes it in these pills isn't really enough to make much difference.

Also, this may or may not be an issue: the 'fine print' says not to use it if you're allergic to shellfish. Haven't figured that out yet, but I'm not sure I want to think about it that hard.

From the same page:

Results not typical.  TRIMSPA products may not work for everyone.  Average results from an 8 week, statistically significant, double-blind, placebo controlled study as opposed to just the

I've taken OTC and prescription "diet" pills. The OTC pills don't really do much and the prescription pills (Ionamin) helped me loose weight, but made me feel crazy. A year or so ago I was bugging my neurologist about my weight---he told me I would have to do what most mortals do---eat less and exercise!!

My current weight loss secret cocktail is topamax, wellbutrin, effexor, and trazodone. I've lost 30 lbs over the last year (152# down to 122#). I'm 45, though, and am sure I'll start gaining as I get closer to menopause.

Weight gain from meds sucks!

Yeah, I pretty much thought it would be pointless.  My current problem is that I was trying to lose weight and doing well with changing my eating, But I have been having horrible IBS and I can't eat ANY vegetables.  Losing weight w/o eating salad is near impossible for me, I usually eat a ton when I am losing weight because it fills me up.  Hopefully I will get this IBS thing under control and get back to losing.  I was even doing WW, but stopped after a few weeks because of the IBS.

Even exercise is sucking because I need to make sure I am constantly within 5 minutes of a bathroom.  And for a person who loves to be outside, walking, hiking, biking, that is not easy.

Don't you wish we could take a pill and be skinny???  Makes sense that if we can take a pill and get fat that we could take a pill and get skinny.  Damn doc won't give me anything stimulating because of mania potential and abuse.

supergwen,

please excuse me if i've mentioned this before.

have you tried a digestive enzyme with every meal?  (and of course probiotics, purchased refrigerated from the health food store or vitamin shop.)

my doctor has me on similase  (which i get from his office, but you get get from online or some stores) and a pro biotic formula.  i alternate between bio-k+ and solray  multidophilus 12 .  the bio-k+ is all acidophilus and the solray is a mix of 12 probiotics.  the bio-k turned my stomach around a LOT, but he says i should also take something like the solray that has a mix of probiotics.  (he told me to take bio-k by name, but didn't recommend a brand for the mix probiotic.  just the usual "make sure it's refrigerated" warning.  (those links are just so you can see the products, i'm not saying you should buy anything from the sites i linked.)

you don't have to take similase, there are other good enzymes. it just REALLY helped me a LOT.  it has in it: amylase; Protease I, II, III, IV; LipaseI, II; Lactase I, II, Phytase; Cellulase I, II; Sucrase and Maltase in it.  i'm sure there are other enzymes with those ingredients.  i just stick with it because i had two docs recommend it.  (one being my gyno... weird huh?)

anyway.... you might want to try enzymes and probiotics.  they'll REALLY help you digest things, which will give you greater options for food so you can loose weight if you feel you need to.

sorry if i went too far off track

best,

penny

i second the probiotics. i take udo's choice brand - and i find that if i take them regularly, they really help my IBS and i can eat more of what i normally wouldnt be able to stand.

weight loss? sigh. topamax really did the trick for me but it was almost scary loss for me.

my mother is a bigger woman, and she did a healthy eating plan as per a nutritionist. she's on it again due to stress weight gain, but absolutely has to lose weight because of health problems...anyway.

it really is very simple.

no proteins with carbs, no fruit with water OR meals, and lots of water. BUT, try not to drink your water with any meals at all. (it wont kill you if you have to, though ;) ) my mom being 200lbs lost 28lbs in under 3mths eating 6 small meals a day - AND cheating was involved as well...drinks, snacks, etc. she just didnt go overboard.

i find that i feel 123% better when i stick to that eating plan. until, of course, my mood slips and my eating goes out of control. heh.

so yeah - just my 2 cents.

While I appreciate the compliment, I am not comfortable with my current weight. By both society's and health standards, I am overweight.

And I will agree that most WOMEN have complexes about their weight, but I'll go out on a limb and say we don't appreciate being called bitches. Be nice or we'll sit on your skinny ass.
