My pdoc prescribed klonophin to me on Tursday.

She prescribed it for sleep and anxiety (moderate to high)

She started me on .5 and said that i should be really careful and not drive and what not because it would totally make me feel loopey and possibly knock me out.

So i took it on thursday night and nothing happened.

My sleep was exactly as it was the night before and no change in the anxiety.

So i called her and let her know and she told me to take 1 instead of .5.

Did that too, no sleepy effects of claming down effects either.

I'm afraid to call her agian beacuse i don't want her to think i'm trying to take more drugs than i'm suppose to.

I did some street drugs a few years back and she knows this.

This is why its taken her almost 2 years to prescribe a benzo to me.

I just don't understand how something SOOOOOOOO strong just isn't making me feel ANYTHING!

Should i attemp 1.5 tonight? to see what happens?

How much klonophin is to much anyways?

I take 1 mg klonopin for anxiety (up to 3mg daily) and it doesn't really make me sleepy.  I doubt I could fall asleep on just 1 mg.  My pdoc gave me 10 mg Ambien (sometimes I only need 5mg) to sleep.

I don't want to advise you to take more than the recommended dosage bit personally, I wouldn't hesitate to take 1.5 to sleep.

I would call your pdoc about your concerns.

I think 4 mg klonopin a day is considered to be to recommended max. dosage but I may be wrong.  I'm sure others are this board are MUCH more knowledgable about this though.

Hi. I don't know what street drugs you took, but it's possible that that has some effect on the klonopin you currently take. Assessing your situation, increasing the dosage probably won't help since you don't experience any effects at all at even 1mg.

The question is, do you have a high general tolerance for benzodiazepines in general ? If not, you could try meds like valium or Seroxat for anxiety (or Xanax, but it tends to be addictive). A low dose might suffice, but you may need a higer dose. There are so many benzodiazepines. Some are especially for anxiety, orthers for sleep. It's not uncommon to take two benzodiazpines. For sleep there are many choices, such as temazepam or Ambien (zolpidem). Check it out before you make any specific request from a doctor.

My own personal experience is that long term use of one type of sedative will decrease the effectiveness of a very different type of sedative. Barbiturates may be an option, but doctors are reluctant to prescribe these, with good reason. Seroquel (I'm actually against taking antipsychotics for sleep/anxiety problems) and chloral hydrate are another category.

But I believe that use of sedatives should be customized for the individual who takes them. Also, they tend to get less effective in time. How fast that goes depends on the individual. It's probably best to make the necessary changes in your life that are needed to NOT be a regular user of sedatives on the long term. But some people are fine on the same dose of klonopin for years !

Rozerem (or Rozarem?) is a sleep med. It has been approved for use in the USA, but, although I didn't study it in detail, it affects your brain in a very different way than the benzodiazepines. For as far as I know, science doesn't really (not fully) know what it does in the brain. It's probably best to stay away from it, you don't know what the long term effects will be.

Also, trazadone, an antidepressant, is often used to help people sleep.

About Rozarem/Rozerem: is is very new, hence it's unknown what the long term effects of the med will be. For that reason, it shouldn be a med of first choice. Anyway, that's the way I see it.

1mg of klonopin should have an affect on your anxiety, but if you have a natural high tolerance, or tolerance issues from whatever drugs you did previously, it will not be something that will make you loopy or unable to drive.

this doesn't mean it's not working.

klonopin isn't a sleeping pill.  it won't knock you out like ambien.  or, rather, it will not make a large portion of the population drowsy.  it never made me drowsy, and i've never been able to use it as a sleep aid.  but 1mg usually is enough to cut the anxiety.

klonpin is at its best when it cuts the anxiety but you can't feel the medication.  it's not supposed to make you feel drugged out in an ideal world.  ideally you can take it and go to work on it.

generally, the only time benzos have ever made me loopy or what have you is if i either took a purposefully large amount to get high or took it when i didn't need it.    (it's been a long time since i've done either of these since i need my benzos for anxiety and don't want to build a tolerance)

i think your pdoc over exaggerated the effects of klonopin.

it really should just calm you down and cut the anxiety.

I take .5mg of klonopin 3 times a day... I don't really feel anything from it anymore.  But when I take .5mg before bed it does make me fall asleep.  I was told that the med can keep you up during the day and change for when its night time.  Sometimes I even forget to take my second dose or my night time dose too.  I've been starting to fall aslepp earlier.  I guess I'm just use to my meds now.

I'm supposed to take only 1mg of Klonopin total for the day--supposedly two separate doses of 0.5 mg. That really doesn't do anything for me--I think I have a high tolerance and it takes a lot of anything to really zonk me out.  :)

So when I take it I usually take the whole dose at once--which would be 1mg, a very low dose! And yes, sometimes I cheat  :embarassed:  and take 3 or 4 pills at once, just to feel some actual anxiety relief! (I can't cheat too much tho--only get 30 tablets each month).

I think it's pretty hard to overdose on Klonopin altho I expect it's possible--it's probably not wise to exceed the prescribed dose by much. But it has certainly never knocked me out!

I miss my Valium. I really do.  ;)

Klonopin is not fast acting, it can take up to an hour to kick in.  The only time I felt anything from klonopin was when I had an interview and i was a nervous wreck.  I took a full 1mg and when it kicked in I felt great.  And by the way I got the job.  After that I haven't felt it since but it has helped my anxiety by far.  I wouldn't cheat if I was you.  If this is suppose to help you sleep and its not then I'd suggest talking to your pdoc about some sort of sleeping pill.  I'd take the .5 mg in the am and afternoon.
