Marat
Hello everyone. My name is Michael and I found these boards from crazymed.org which I found through google searching for drug information for bipolar. I was diagnosed as bipolar about four years ago. I have yet to find much stability through medication, but that is more a reflection of where I had to go for help. Since due to problems with being bipolar, I was always losing jobs or getting fired, and had no insurance and had to go to MHMR here in town. They just herd people through there like cattle and don't listen when you tell them something isn't working. I took what I could get though and tried to convince myself that I was better off a little bit, and that my breakthough episodes weren't as bad as they would have been without any meds. Anyway, after a long process I did get approved for SSDI and now I'm living the high life with my huge monthly payment (yeah, right). At least now through that I have insurance and tomorrow I get to go to my new psychiatrist. I've never been so excited to go to the doctor before. A doctor who will (hopefully) listen to me and work on getting me stable. That's about it for now. Oh, my user name is for my cat, Marat, who was named after Marat Safin, my favorite tennis player. I'm a big tennis fan.

AirMarshall
Welcome Marat ! Glad you found us. I'm sure that struggling all this time without a pdoc will make you appreciate having one much more. Congrats on having navigated the system to get benefits. Cheers, a.m.
ncc1701
Heya Marat, Nice to meet you! I found CB looking for consumer reports on Lamictal. I like it here, hope you do too. Good luck with psych -- both of mine have been helpful altogether. --ncc--
Marat
OK, so I'm replying to my own topic. I want to vent, so please humor me. I go to my doctor appointment today, the one with the psychiatrist and the one I've been waiting for for nearly two months. I get there right at 2:15 (on time) and check in with the person at the desk. It turns out I'm scheduled for an appointment at 2:15, BUT FOR NOTHING! I'm not on the schedule to meet any doctor, and don't have me scheduled for anything, but I am supposed to be there at 2:15. I remained remarkable calm, even though I wanted to jump over the desk and beat that lady. I've waited two months for this, and now have to wait until May 17th. I guess I'll make it, but I'm just p***ed over wasting all this time and having nothing to show for it. Thanks for listening/reading.

Sounds to me that someone at the front desk screwed up and was covering her own behind.
AirMarshall
Ok, this is definitely a case where you get to charge THEM $55. _ Never heard of an appointment for no reason. a.m.
tallulah
Marat, im so sorry to hear that. how frustrating... how did s/he explain why they made an appointment for you WITHOUT a doctor's name beside it? may 17th is just around the corner. hang in there. tal
Marat
Thanks everyone. No, she didn't explain it to me. What makes it all the more strange is I've talked to her or someone else there at the front desk at least three times in the past two months about this appointment. The only pdoc with my insurance isn't taking any new patients, so I had to go to an out of network provider, which my insurance agreed to cover, provided I jump through hoops. In order to jump through those hoops, I had to call several times after making the initial appointment, and no one had any difficulty helping me then or knowing who I was supposed to see. I show up in person, and no one had a clue why I'm there, just that I'm scheduled for 2:15. I've been bitching about this for 7 hours now and I'm still angry. It is only three weeks or so, and I'm trying to remind myself how lucky I am to have the chance at all and that I have insurance, and even that I have a home. There are so many, MANY people worse off than me.
tallulah
ugh. what a pain in the ass. just make sure you call another 7 or 8 times to make sure youre REALLY going to see the pdoc next time
Marat
Well, they called to change my appointment a couple times (can't they get it straight the first time?) but I did get into the doctor on Monday. He put me on Risperdal, an amazing 1mg for the first week, 2 the following, then I go back to see him after that. I'd like to bitch about the low dosage and the slow approach to everything, but I'm feeling rather thankful to find someone to work with me at all. Finding an out of network provider willing to do the out of network thing wasn't easy, but I finally did and only had to pay $10 instead of the full price. I have to end this now. My cat heard the keyboard and is now insisting on me holding and petting him.

Some times you have to sacrifice a little to get a lot. Ew, that was a horrible cliche, where is my icepick? Anyway, welcome to the virtual insane asylum as I lovingly refer to it. I will not be eligible for parole until 2525. I love your sig. Jack Handy was funny, poor Phil Hartman. That was a loss... S9
