cymbalta vs effexor

Recommended Posts

I am reading up on my next options in a couple weeks, effexor and cymbalta, I know that higher doses of effexor hit the norepinephrine, but when does cymbalta hit it?  Does anyone have an opinion as to which is the better one to try first out of the two I have avoided for a long time?

thx, am I correct that S is the problem with anxiety and the meds that hit the N can make you anxious? I just say that because it seems like strattera and wellbutrin can make you anxious?

However I am not sure why the doctor told me they might be my next choices?

I have anxiety, ocd - like no compulsions but lots of obsessive thinking and worrying, as well as some add issues that my tdoc says could be alot of my problem.

I don't think stims are the way to go because I am anxious - like caffeine bothers me.

Cymbalta and Effexor are basically opposite in that way.

Like 'thePunisher', my problems are anxiety and obsessive thoughts, OCD without much of the 'C'. After 2 years on Effexor + Lexapro with only minimal improvement, switched to Cymbalta only. No change - until 2 weeks ago when my doctor added a folic acid compound called Deplin. WOW!!! This little trick has kicked the Cymbalta into hi-gear - the improvement was noticable within about 3-4 days, and I feel better than I have in years. Hope this helps someone!

From what I understand Cymbalta hits the N first then the serotin. I was up to 300mg of Effexor per day, and it didn't do much. Switched to Celexa now, not noticing any difference. I was on Paxil before. Meds go round lol. Goodluck with whatever you choose. Are you on any other meds?
