lilie
What do you think it's from? Tired parents that trust well-paid-by-big-pharma docs hasty and incorrect assumptions, exasperated teachers that can't handle the 40 kids they have in their stuffed to the gills classrooms, vaccinations with hidden side effects, or are our kids really experiencing these levels of psychotic behaviors? ehygon
hahaha, I can see it now, instead of selling their ritalin, adhd kids whispering about how much to sell their zyprexa for.
realitytest
Schizophrenia is relatively rare but in males the typical age of onselt is young - late adolescence (my son started AAPs at age 15). Yeah, it hurt, But not as much as seeing him suffer from control phenomena and hearing a command Voice. Also Seroquel is prescribed for so many things these days, A lot of those kids could be taking it to help them sleep.. Kids are under more pressure than ever, and insomnia is a serious problem. (Ambien is OUT, Speaking from sad experience. It's one of the factors that brought on my son's illness).

Lilie All of the above, maybe. Aren't the atypicals considered tranqs just like their big bad brothers? But also there's been an upswing in attention paid to high-functioning autism and Asperger's (at least articles in the "popular press" about the autism "epidemic" [shyeah roit]) - I think those kids often get hit with the atypicals like risperdal. wifezilla
Kids who need the drugs aren't getting them. Kids who don't need it are given drugs to shut them up. Who are these "experts" anyway? I want to be an expert so I can say stupid shit and get paid tons of money while having no accountability. Grrrrr!! As a side note, my girlfriend's son went through years of hell because he was diagnosed as schitzoeffective at 13. The initial diagnosis was suggested by a t-doc and confirmed by a p-doc. But then their insurance changed. The new doctor they had to use said he couldn't be sze because he was "too young". So they changed his meds and he started talking about killing his family. Then he was hospitalized...more doctors argued about his diagnosis, meds changed, he flipped out worse. Then they thought "well gee, maybe he is sze!" DUH! He was stabilized, got out, work changed insurance AGAIN, new pdoc... another round of "he can't be sze, he's too young!". He wanted to kill step-dad and mom again, more hospitals, more doctors arguing about what was wrong with him...he ended up in state custody...institutionalized. Now he is 18, getting ready to get his own apartment, he has a job. He is stable on meds for SCHITZOEFFECTIVE DISORDER. I guess now he is old enough for the diagnosis. That poor kid went through 5 years of hell while "experts" argued...never paying attention to what actually worked. Assholes

dan
I've read this too in journals. And it's not just AAPs, it's mood stabilisers in general: lithium, anti-convulsants and AAPs. The thing that blew me out was that I heard the moost succcess has come from divalproex sodium (depakote) lithium and clozaril!!! Prescibing all these drugs with ptoentially dangerous side effects and all of which need blood work done regularly to check for liver function or blood levels or all the stuff that comes with clozaril! And yes they are mostly prescibed as mood stabilisers or to counter the deficits in autism. Dan
Dire Curves
Unfortunately its happening everywhere, usually kids that don't get enough attention or lack things to keep them busy. and todays 'parents' (not alll) and docs (not all) love to prescribe all kinds o shit for little things that a paddle would've cured (did cure when i was a kid) and you're all correct, the ones that don't need it get it and those in need rarely do. However the same can be told of adults. Face it we're a drugged society, unfortunately it's not any of the good stuff that grows in the dirt My ex's 9 year old daughter was BP I, and being BP NOS I even had a tough time following her. Luckily now she is on SSI and getting the right treatment, what is unfortunate is that her whole family is small and skinny but after being on certain meds (zyprexa) she ballooned up. But her doc switched her to something more mild and more suited to her metabolism. Since i haven't seen her in a year i couldn't tell you what she's on now, she did look and act much better last i saw of her. I think pharmo cos should be banned from having commercials on tv. doctors should be the ones deciding the right meds, not someone sitting in their lazy boy thinking "i think i got that" or "my kid's gettin too out of hand" I didn't have enough time to get "out of hand" until i got my liscence but that's another story oh yeah... soon there will be an influx of young children/adults with liver failures because of these meds being misprescribed. just makes a person wanna kick Big Pharmos ass to the moon
