Croix
So Marine and I went out to Barnes and Noble tonight and I found this cd. Looked good (wishful thinking?). It's from a Dr. Jeffery Thompson. Here's what the back of the cd says: Play Delta Sleep System on any ordinary stereo when you are ready to go to sleep. Gentle pulses embedded into an ambient musical soundtrack, combining rich orchestration and "3-dimensional" sounds of nature, will coax your own brainwaves toward their natural pattern of deep Delta sleep. Anyone heard of it? Tried it? I'm gonna put it on tonight and report back. I've always been an insomniac, but these past two weeks have been torture. And I refuse to take any sleep meds. Cross your fingers for me. Croix

I haven't heard of that in particular but I have had some programs on my computer that I have tried. I can't really be sure of the results. For naps, it seemed that some of the frequencies, patterns, background sounds, what the hellever might have been good... I had a few programs and one of them was really complex. I'll see if I can find them. It's really interesting. One of them... I don't know if it was that particular program that I ran or I just had a bad night. It's so hard to say. A lot of them are pretty calming, though. Which is why I think it is good in the background for napping. Like I said, I really couldn't give a good review for the whole sleep thing. But I try to look for them again. ~navy~
Penny Century
i bought a few out of desperation. they ended up, all 3 of the, annoying me so much i threw them each, night by night, across the room. i have weird noise ... issues... though. i prefer books on tape. i like the theory, but it didn't work for me. then again, when i lived in a studio i used to have my refrigerator on a timer to turn off at night because the noise drove me insane when i was trying to sleep, so i may not be the best judge of what sounds are and are not soothing or maddening. i hope they work for you croix. penny

Croix
Ok, well I tried it last night and um.... it sounded like the background noise of a horror movie. Freaky. I hate horror movies. I kept waiting for something to come out from under my bed and grab me. I listened to the whole cd, and still didn't fall asleep til 6am. I'm exhausted. This is killing me. Anyone know of any other relaxation cd's that actually work? I'm thinking about trying a hypnosis one, where the guy talks the whole way through. Maybe the monotone voice will help. I'm so tired.... Sunshine
I've had the best luck with good old-fashioned rain, running water, or just plain white noise.
AirMarshall
My folks gave me a combo alarm clock/ noise generator last year. I found the crickets to be the best for sleep. Where is it? In the trash; too hard to program and operate. After two missed appointments due to oversleeping it took a flight across the room. The original sleep soundtrack? Falling asleep on mommas chest listening to her heartbeat. A number of years ago they sold heartbeat tapes to be played to newborn babies, to help them sleep. Are those still around? a.m.
Croix
Oh I do love the crickets. I'm surprised they haven't started up around here yet. Well even though I was dragging ass, I forced myself to get out of the house and do something. We walked around at a downtown festival in the humidity (ugh) for a couple of hours. Fell asleep on the couch about 1am. Slept pretty good for the first time in weeks, even though I only got 5 hours. I usually don't like the regular thunderstorm, waves, birds, cds. They keep me awake for some reason. I have a loud ass fan on for white noise. Doesn't seem to make a difference one way or the other. I think it's just hard for me to get to sleep at a decent time and wake up early. I've always been a night owl. But now that I have a kid in school, I must start my day early. It's hard to fight nature though. No matter how much I do all day, I'm just not tired at night. My mind races while I lie there hour after hour. It sucks. I'm tired of fighting it... Those teddy bears are still around. Does that mean I would have to take up sleeping with a teddy bear, or could I just sit it on my nightstand?
