First: talk to your doctor about any plan you want to try. Second: have you been tested for candida overgrowth? If so, your doc will tell you what to do. Otherwise...

Basically, just modify a sensible diet. Stop feeding the things refined sugars or carbohydrates (this means no candy, sodas, lemonade, flour, etc) or empty sources thereof, like potatoes and juice (a.k.a. that stupid lemonade thing would not only fuck with your blood sugar, the candida would love it. the very thought of it in the first place makes me wince). Make sure to eat yer fruits and veggies. Take probiotics to repopulate your gut. Avoid anything with yeast in it, because why the hell would you want the more of the thing that's a problem coming in your body?

You know, sensible stuff that's kind of a variant of things you could do anyway. I have this policy of not going totally overboard with stuff unless sanctioned by a doctor or a nutritionist. It tends to be a good policy.

fasting is always a risky route, imo, and should never be undertaken without talking to your doctor first.

restricting sugars and complex carbohydrates like white flour, white rice, etc. never hurt anyone.

i don't know where you have/think you have an overgrowth, but don't go too atkins on it or you'll get constipated, and that never helps anything.

really, if you think you have an overgrowth, the best place to start is to supplement with some good probiotics. my doctor reccomended bio-K + when i was having stomach problems and it helped a lot. though, if you're re populating your gut after (or preferably while on) antibiotics, it's better to use a supplement that has more than one strain of bacteria.

i hate to say it, but i have yet to see solid evidence that fasts are anything but quackery. the only time i've ever been told to not eat by a doctor was for medical testing purposes.

hello, candida overgrowth is Candida Albicans....a yeast-like organism (although Wikipedia classifies it as a yeast, medical texts usually say yeast-like. but you can't bake bread with Candida).

Real yeast, baker's yeast, the stuff you find in baked goods is Saccharomyces cerevisiae, a different organism. same family, completely different species. *sorry, pet peeve of mine....to me it's like saying felis domesticus and felis concolor are the same*

i don't think avoiding bakers yeast is going to be beneficial in fighting off Candida. in fact, by eliminating Saccharomyces, you may be eliminating a pro-biotic.

have you been diagnosed with a candida overgrowth problem?

things that you should try to avoid:

sweeteners

cheese and other dairy products

breads with yeast

fermented or refined foods

coffee and booze!

drink lots of water - 8 glasses a day if you can. lots of fiber, LEAN protein, veggies and some fruits (granny smith apples are good - so ive read). flax seed oil and garlic are good too.

i use Udo's Choice probiotic blends - which help SO much with my IBS.

my bf's mom, who freaks me out a lot of the time really helps me with stuff like this...so yeah.

hope this helps.

If you had undiagnosed diabetes or grossly uncontrolled diabetes, then your bodily fluids could have high(er) concentrations of sugar, which could encourage thrush.

"Candida overgrowth" You are talking about skin or body cavity problems right? Not some mysterious whole body sickness (bs), right?

I don't know about avoiding fermented etc foods... ;)

However, whether or not you DO have a Candida overgrowth (did you say where?) yogurt is good for you. If you make your own, it's all the better.

It's not that hard if you start with a real culture and learn how to get the temperatures right, either by trial and error, or with a thermometer. Basically, you want to wait to add the culture until the milk cools down just a tad from a boil (only a bit of a tingle from the heat on the back of your hand - not a scald.)

Then you have to be careful not to put it in a too warm place while it sets. The top of a double oven is ideal (bottom oven heated so the one of top is warm without being hot;. A very lightly warmed regular one can also work if you're careful and keep the tempoerature at around 100 degrees F. Wrap the container in a towel and don't jostle it!!! Also do NOT put it a breezy spot.

Er, one other thing. If you add too much culture it will be sour.

There ARE commercial yogurt makers...(Yeah, this IS complicated, I guess. I learned how from experience. That and making GREAT baklava if I do say so, are about all I got out of a horrific marriage to a Turk.) They don't have the world's longest lived people in Central Asia for nothing! (There and Okinawa. The seaweed and coral are supposed to do it there, I hear. I have a VERY healthy Okinawan sister in law. She got me eating the snack seaweed, in fact).

rt

PS I like to strain mine through a cheesecloth hung over a sink to drip, tied to the faucet . Comes out creamy, though the volume shrinks a ton. I still remember being in Turkey. You hand the yogurtci your pots and vessels the night before. Then in the morning outside your door, you get them back full of fabulous yogurt with a thick crust on top!

And it is the BEST thing for Candida, to get back on topic. :)

Hey!!

I'm not a dietician yeast i won't lie, but got 7 weeks to go. (ya!) I also really suffer alot from candida, and so far there is a lot of contraversy about the candida diet. Not enough statistical proof of it effiency. We don't recommend it, we avoid cutting out foods in genral unless you have too. Also if you going to do, that means cutting out all yeast in every size and form which is pretty impossible. Its a different type of yeast.

Its often related to taking antibiotics, thats why if you do always to probiotics with them, your doc should prescribe them. Taking them in genral is advisable if you suffer from candida, yoghats good as it naturally has them.

I know with myself I have a terrible immune system and thats basically what my doctor says. Cutting out to much food will effect your well being anyway, knocking your immune system at that.

Did you say you had diabetes? Could be alot of the reason it doesn't get better, How well controlled is it? Excess sugar ain't going to help, help the bacteria thrive.

Eat a sensible diet and avoiding too much candy? Ask your doctor what he thinks? I have terrible thrush but wouldn't go on a candida diet.

Hope it gets better!! I know its so shit!!!!!

I read that if you take a multivitamin that includes molybdenum, that your candida will diminish greatly. A study showed that increased molybdenum, not sure how much,( please asked a vitamin specialist about the safe dosage)reduced or eliminated yeast overgrowth. Also, I got on a raw diet and cut back on any cooked carbs to no more than one serving a day or eliminate and substitute with salad. I read the book the Sunfood Diet Success System. Fruit and Greens, soaked raw nuts and seeds with dried soaked fruits pureed with lemon juice and evoo is a delicious breakfast. But hummas and garlic with lemon juice and evoo is a great lunch with a large salad with hummas, hempseed protein powder and agave nectar or honey and a touch of hot sauce works for me. I lost my yeast.
