lemonflavor
I was about to go up to 900mg of Trileptal tonight, but I see on CrazyMeds that split doses are recommended. My doctor didn't say anything about splitting the dose. I was wondering if I should take 600 tonight and 300 tomorrow morning. I can call my doc but won't get an answer until late afternoon. I don't think it's a big deal one way or another so I was wondering what your experience is. I do get some nausea and sedation. The nausea is constant though. Thanks. SerraGeorge
I was taking 600 mg and went up to 900 in exactly the way you're asking about. I take 300 in the morning and 600 at night. The fear was of course that taking additional meds in the morning would sedate me through the day which I didn't need. So. I would suggest doing it that way.. at least at first until you know how sedating it will be for you. The thought was that if I was too "amped up" in the daytime from my manicky stuff, then later we could split the second night tablet in half and take half in the morning and half at night. I don't care for the daytime increase though, as I feel tired all day. My main problem was not being able to sleep at night, so adding the trileptal at night made sense anyway. Guest Llamanator
Well, like SerraGeorge indicated, it really depends on what your problems are, and how you tolerate the medication. If it keeps working throughout the day on one dose, and you don't notice any ups or dips in effect (the big reason for splitting), you're probably fine. If you notice your mood varies, or it's just not working that well, trying a morning dose couldn't hurt. Make sure to talk to your doc if you change timing, though, so any side effects like daytime sleepiness won't be a surprise You can always go back to where you were before.
