revlow
Taking with food is important. I was in one of the 1st studies of it, and at least then the researchers said to take it about 30-40 mins after eating (if memory serves me well; it was somewhere around there). Nausea was an issue for me initially, but taken it after a meal helped a lot. Again, going back several years, but as I remember the nausea went away in a couple weeks. Had no other SEs. Because this was a study, they had us titrate up very slowly. I'm a freak -- it eventually took 450 mg. to get an AD effect, which is high. Was good for several years, then pooped out on me. Eventually dx as BPII, which is the correct dx and Lamictal has helped tremendously. (OT from your Q.) I hope you do well on Effexor. For those it helps, it can be a real blessing. revlow
Guest montyface
Hey, I started about 9 days ago at 37.5mg's and then moved up after 6 days to 75mg's. So far I feel nothing good or bad, maybe a BIT tired like with the ssri's I tried. That was the biggest issue with prozac, lex, celex, and zoloft. Get tired, lethargic, unmotivated, etc. Seemed like the anxiety might have picked up a bit, but then again I started having a fresh ice coffee here or there, a little energy booster, but SUCKS for the anxiety. I am wondering how long pdoco leaves me on 75 before moving me up, wouldn't mind some help for the anxiety, all told it isn't that awful, not like I can't do anything, and I have klonopin if needed. The ocd or obsessing shit is what sucks the most, it is like mostly obsessing but then also some adhd type crap built in as well. seems to be popular here at crazyboards Taking with food is important. robotlove29
i think effexor is a great drug...dont believe the horror stories you read about discontinuation yet...i loved it, but learned i was bipolar and am in the process of quitting. worst dincontinuation for me is a headache, but effexor did wonders for my depression and anxiety...too bad it made me manic.. :-P

Greenyflower
Woke up thinking about suicide and hanging. Getting up for the day is quite hard, I am not motivated to go thru a whole day. Took med at 12:30 with waffles. No headache today. Are you taking it at the same time every day? 12:30 sounds too late. Effexor, even the XR version, is very time sensitive. If I didn't take it by 9"00 a.m., my day sucked. The nausea generally goes away a few days after you start a new dose. I only had to take it with food the first few days, then it was fine on an empty stomach. Greeny

Sensation
Since I upped(sp) to 112.5 on thurs I have had a ache between my eyes. The dr warned me that if I get headache, heart palpitatations or sweating, it may mean blood pressure is high. But my mood is much better and I dont want to stop. The pain may be from my pink eye flare up too. I am gonna check my blood pressure at the drug store...
Zelda
I have been on effexor for the past 6 1/2 years, and have been on 600 mgs for the past two years. It has been a wonderful med for me, but recently I have been feeling the depression taking hold again. Come to think of it, a med to work 6 yrs for me is somewhat of a miracle:(! I hope you have good luck with it also!

I only had to take it with food the first few days, then it was fine on an empty stomach. Greeny i had to split my effexor dose and take half at lunch (i eat lunch late) otherwise i'd get a pounding headache in the afternoon that would last until morning. i also had my alarm set so that i always always took my breakfast dose at the same time. though, honestly, if i didn't i would wake up because my body would be like "effexor time!" i'm a "fast processor" so i don't think the twice a day dosing is that common, but if taking it at the same time every day doesn't help you may want to try twice a day dosing. i had a headache when i first went on the med for uh, about a month? but then it went away. def check your blood pressure, but it could hypothetically be a start-up side effect. YMMV and all that news.
