Breeze
This is annoying and sad. The generation of kids now, (And I am not sure which generation they are talking about since I am getting into another age bracket ) is said to be in sorry shape. It is predicted that they will not oulive their parents. We as a society have got to wake up. First of all, we have to stop eating crap food and feeding it to our kids, and secondly, we have to stop the stigma of "really thin is really healthy". That isn't true either. My sister is visiting this weekend and is really tall and too thin. She thinks she is perfect. I don't. The television and movie industry is teaching our youth that "thin is in". Just like they taught us smoking was cool in the 50's. (not me I am not quite in that age bracket yet.) Anyway - we need to get off our butt's as a nation, and get in shape, eat right, and get serious about this. Breeze
wifezilla
I just think of all the kids that could benefit from playing (by giving them exercise and fresh air) but wont even go outdoors because of the bullies. These poor kids turn inward, and spend their time on the computer instead of in a physical activity. You even see this to some extent in "adult land"...like at the gym. The "perfects" who are rude and snotty to the "fat girl" who checks out the classes. Well, if she is fat, she needs the exercise asshole! Instead of being supportive about someone making a change in their life, they look down on her for not being skinny anough or attractive enough. Like they might get "fat cooties" if they are forced to associate with someone overweight. These are just grownup versions of the grade school bullies who target the overweight kids in dodgeball, etc..
~nestling~
on the other hand, there's underweight folks like me who were still bullied, (in the 70s and 80s) (because of being skinny) and who, because of anxiety, low self esteem and innate lack of coordination and acute sensitivity, were crap at games...and bullied because of that too...and there was no escape....because the games teachers bullied me too..... ...back to subject... lilie
Nestling I got harassed for being skinny too but all of my coaches were activity freaks the minute a bully called me "bones" or whatever the coach would have them running laps. Bullies would have to endure extra workout time seriously. Too bad they don't do that now. Lilie
wifezilla
Its the whole "Find someone who is a little different and treat them like shit" thing. Yeah...happens to skinny and fat kids. But with the popular headlines being "American kids are overweight", here is one of the reasons. Add to that high fructose corn syrup being in everything, parent's who don't know how to cook, excessive fast food, reduction of physical ed programs, no more reccess, etc.... We can all agree that bullies suck. If we took care of the bully problem, it might help with some of the obesity issues too.
