Guest montyface
I have been on 75mg of effexor for about 3 weeks, or a bit longer, already to go back to lexapro, which I tried but only at 10mg for a few weeks. My hands shake worse then the prozac stuff, I can already feel my stomach getting fatter. And I feel nothing positive from it. I am thinking why not the lexapro which didn't cause me those issues, but made me tired, then add in something to curb the tired, motivation issues? The sweating at night sucks to from the effexor. Velvet Elvis
FWIW, a lot of people start lex at 5mgs.
Guest montyface
I hope to just f'g switch, I realize today that the effexor for sure is the weight gain, this past month has sucked, I am working hard not to give into the cravings but it varies, carbs mostly but just hungry more then ever. I agree with many on this site that when you gain to much weight from the meds then it can make things worse for you. I gained probably 5 pds in the 3.5 weeks I have been on it. To much, I am not going further, I dont see what the big difference in taking an ssri plus something to mess with the N stuff like wellbutrin? FWIW, a lot of people start lex at 5mgs. Velvet Elvis
I gained 100 pounds on seroquel. I win. It was only when diabetes started to become a real risk that I had to break down and quit taking it. It helped with my OCD enough that I'd gladly have gained enough weight to need to widen the doorway to fit in and out of the house. Seriously. I don't think you get it. Sometimes you just have to put up with some truly shitty side effects if you want to get the least bit better. Ask yourself. Would you chop off your hand to make your OCD go away? I sure as hell would. Are the side effects you're dealing with now worse than chopping off your hand? If they are not, take your damn meds! Thomas
I have been on effexor for nine weeks now. Currently up to 225 mg. with no weight gain yet. Of course I was losing weight for no known reason before and that hasn't seemed to continue. I stopped taking lexapro about six weeks ago. No bad side effects from the effexor yet. I see my shrink tomorrow and I don't know if she'll increase it again or not. She may just increase my lamictal instead (currently at 50 mg.). velveteen
all I can say is, THANK GOD for Effexor!!!! I don't think a month is long enough to say it doesn't work... but then again what do I know? I never had night sweats. I never had shaky hands The weight gain I had was pretty much from Seroxat/Paxil and binge/emotional eating and drinking. Sure, I'm overweight and I'm tired a lot but the melt-downs seem to be less in the last couple weeks (when I upped to 150mg).

Guest Guest
looks like I am staying on the effexor, not bad I guess. So far 3 weeks on 75mg with nothing bad, just some increased cravings. I think my hands are not nearly as shaky as on the prozac, they do shake but sometimes but that is from my asthma inhaler. So all in all no big complaints, maybe this one will finally work and I can stop obsessing, or could ya tell from the 450 posts? My night sweats seem to have stopped when I got to 150 mg.
