Croix
New Orleaneans, in their infinite wisdom went and re-elected Mayor Ray Nagin. Dumbasses. Do they really think he cares about them? This guy just wants to stay in power. If he really cared about the citizens of NO he wouldn't have had all those corrupt police officers on the force in the first place. You know, the same ones that were looting after the hurricane. The same ones that were shooting innocent people after the hurricane. Same Mayor who said he wanted to turn NO into a "chocolate city" Well, let's just come right out and say it..."I'm a big ole racist" The majority of the population love him. Because the majority of the population is african american. Like 70%. They don't care that he does nothing for them, they care that he is black. Stupid. A monkey on barbituates could do a better job than this guy. C'mon folks. Vote for someone who has the intelligence and ability to make good decisions. Put someone in power who will not only rebuild the city, but raise the standards so it's better than it was before. I'm so disappointed. lilie
I'm not sure about Louisiana politics but I do know that people become lazy and complacent and don't want to investigate anything outside of their comfort zone. If they did George Bush and his cronies would have been gone long ago much less Ray Nagin. Lilie
Velvet Elvis
I don't know much about the politics down there either, but he's made a better impression on me than any of the Landreus (sp?). I liked the pissed off radio broadcast he made a few days after the hurricane.
Croix
Well sure, anyone would have made the same good pissed off speech. But he was fuckin things up waaaaaay before the hurricane. During some of his campaigning speeches, he was telling the press that he wouldn't truthfully answer their questions with the cameras rolling. wtf is that? He wasn't saying it in a joking way either. You're right lilie, lots of people are too lazy to research new candidates and just go with the one they already know. Sad. And hey, we're use to corrupt politicians down here. Anything else we wouldn't know what to do with ourselves. But still..... Croix

I remember going over the lake ponchatrain bridge (thats when you buy the cheapy hotels for mardi gras). I have so many good memories. and then there is this jerk-off. he did not help during the hurricane, he only made things worse. I havent been keeping score with whats going on because its all so painful. but i did see the dude got re-elected. Im sorry. december
Croix
The other guy is our state Senator's (Mary Landreu's) brother. They're a political family. Just so you know, When Nagin was first elected in 2002, 80%of the voters were white, 20%black. This year it was the other way around. One reason was that 95% of the white folks got the hell out of the city and haven't returned and don't plan on returning. So they don't care one way or the other. Another reason is, to insure he got re-elected, Nagin campaigned in and had voters bussed to the polls in all the other cities where the displaced residents were. There has not been a white mayor in NO since 1960something I believe. And that was Landreu's Dad. Like I said things are split racially here, no matter what the issue is. Although, I must say, I was surprised at how close it was. It was like 48 to 52 percent. Maybe if Landreu wouldn't have run such a clean campaign he would have won and could have cleaned up the police force and the city. Such a shame. Who knows if it will ever be restored to it's former glory. Croix
Libby
All I know about Nagin is what I've seen since Katrina. Based on that, I'd say he did a hell of a job during a hell of a horrible tragedy. With no help from inept and corrupt FEMA. Based on what I've seen, I would have voted for him. Nagin can't help it that Bush and his corrupt cronies don't give a rat's ass about poor black people, and they don't give a rat's ass about New Orleans. Hell, Bush's people probably hope that this next hurricane season blows all of NO off the map, so that they can get in there and build new white elite neighborhoods. wifezilla
"New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin is suggesting that Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and other storms were a sign that "God is mad at America" and at black communities too. Speaking at a Martin Luther King Day event, Nagin said that King wouldn't have approved of the war in Iraq and that he would be "upset at black America" for not taking care of itself. Nagin also promised that New Orleans will be a "chocolate" city again." Oookaaayyyyyy
Croix
Agggggrrrh. ANYONE would have come out looking great after trying to take charge immediately after Katrina. His cronies and police force were corrupt BEFORE the hurricane. He was racist BEFORE the hurricane. Inept and corrupt are the exact words I would use to describe Nagin himself. He didn't do a hell of a job, he did A job. Libby, of course you would have voted for him based on the tiny, little bit that you've seen. But you, nor did the rest of the country get the whole picture of this guy. Nagin did NOTHING for the poor black community. He was shit for the city before the hurricane, what makes him so good for it now? Wifezilla, exactly. Croix
lilie
Why does a corrupt politician surprise anyone? That's the Amerian way... Lilie
ncc1701
Heya Croix, Heheh. Yah. Pretending not to be corrupt. That's what got Bush-lite into office. The opposing party was -- drum roll, please -- found to be corrupt. ACK!! Corrupt politicians!!! Whose only difference from any *other* politicians was being stupid enough to get caught. Now we have Bush-lite who's wrecking the Constitution. Who's as corrupt as your mayor but clever enough (so far) not to get caught. And who has assumed complete control over what his ministers say, even as far as *not allowed* to say hi to staff in the hallways (my sister is staff). So, argh indeed. How are things in New Orleans? (Real story, not corrupt party line like on TV.) --ncc--
Croix
Well, yeah, like I said if we had a non-corrupt politician here, we wouldn't know what to do with him. Actually we would. We'd burn him at the stake for being a witch. Sis on staff. I'd love to hear some inside scoop. Can't say hi? Wow. Hurricane recovery is still very slow going. Levee is still not back up. And hurricane season is already here again. Our bad seasons come in cycles. We'll have three bad years, then nothing for 7 or 8. So, we'll probably have another bad year. Maybe not another Catagory 5 hit NO again, but you never know. AND THE DAMN LEVEE IS STILL NOT FIXED. Most of the city is still in shambles. It ain't lookin good folks. That's why only a handful of people have returned. It's sad. Croix
