Guest montyface
I am on effexor 75 and although my exercise isn't daily, mostly weekends and my diet isn't bad at all, I have gained a few pds since starting effexor. Seems like it hits you in the belly mostly? Does that make sense? Does lexapro or zoloft have better weight neutral traits or loss traits then effexor? Why do all these meds cause weight gain? Guest montyface
Why do they all cause weight gain? Is wellbutrin the only one that helps to lose? I suppose if you take effexor you couldn't take wellbutrin to help lose weight since effexor already works on the N right?

It is weight neutral for most people and some people lose quite a lot of weight on it. Lexapro would be number 2. Zoloft probably number 3. All the others have an unfortuante reputation of weight gain for many people (not everyone). Wellbutrin can be added to decrease appetite also. It is used for smoking cessation as well - one of its features is that it reducing cravings.
Peaty
I started taking Cymbalta at the end of November, right before Thanksgiving. I've lost weight on it since then. From December till the middle of March all I did was play videogames and somehow I still lost weight. But, I also didn't eat a whole lot. I'm still losing weight but I'm exercising a lot as well. I took Lexapro for a couple years a few years back and I gained a lot of weight.

borzage
Paxil takes my appetite away. When I was using it as monotherapy, at 20-30mg/day, I couldn't eat anything. Couldn't sleep, either.
LikeMinded
Cymbalta (probably since it also acts on norepinephrine) caused a slight weight loss in clinical trials. Paxil is notorious for making people gain weight, but as said above, it gives many people nausea. Both my mother and I lost weight while on it at different points in time. Good for her, bad for me. PsychoTropic
Cymbalta took away the cravings I was experiencing on Lamictal. What a relief! I'm eating normally again and losing weight. Not drastic amounts, but enough that I don't feel like my stomach is constantly distended.
