Hi,

I have read about Neurontin and Lyrica on crazymeds.us and other websites, from what I've read I think it could help me greatly for restlesness. At least I'd like to give it a try.

I asked my pdoc about it a few months ago, but he said he wouldn't prescribe it, because the side effects included depression and anxiety.

It is an uncommon med here in the Netherlands, used only for epilepsy and neuropathic pain I believe.

How can I convince him to let me give it a try?

He agrees that my restlesness symptoms are serious and we've tried Ritalin but it didn't work well. Haldol works quite a bit, but I feel it could be much better.

My symptoms also include anxiety and nervousness. A bit 'neurotic'.

I also wanted to try Dilantin (phenytoin) because I came upon this website: www.remarkablemedicine.com. It seems Dilantin has great promises according to that website...

Can anyone help me giving some arguments for trying these meds off-label? Maybe someone has some positive research information (e.g. gabapentin for anxiety) that I could print and hand it to him?

Greetings,

hypercat

my neuro prescribed it to me off-label for migraines. it did not work for that but helped tremendously for anxiety and overall feelings. i didn't even have to use my xanax at all. now that i'm coming off of it, the anxiety is coming back.

here is the pinned post about 2 studies using lyrica for anxiety.

as it helps anxiety, i would be confused that it would cause it. (though i'm not quite sure what you mean by 'unrest' so i don't know if it would help that.)

and i don't know how drug approvals work in the netherlands, but it is approved by the European Commission for use for generalized anxiety disorder.

International Approvals: Lyrica and Boniva

On March 27, the European Commission (EC) approved a new indication for pregabalin (Lyrica capsules, made by Pfizer, Inc), allowing its use for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in the European Union.

The approval was based on a review of data from 5 randomized, double-blind clinical trials in more than 2000 patients showing that pregabalin provided rapid and sustained efficacy in treating GAD, yielding significant relief from psychic and somatic symptoms within the first week of treatment.

it's only approved in the US for neuropathic pain and epilepsy, but i printed out those studies and some other stuff for my pdoc and he was willing to give it a go.

hope that helps
