Hypersomnia (too much sleep)

Recommended Posts

I sleep... a lot. I am tired all day. :) I get these dizzy lightheadedness, confused a lot. My BP is ok.

I'm on Lamictal 200mg, Effexor 150mg, and now added Zoloft 50mg

I want to add something to keep me awake... all day. But I can't do Wellbutrin.

Ok, I'm going to bed again now. ;)

oh yeah and maybe i should mention i get pain in my fingers and hips, but theres no Rheumatoid Arthritis. I have RLS due to my Lamictal, but it's under control with taking some Cogentin.

Also I take Prevacid, Zyrtec, and Singulair. Allergies and acid reflux.

My mother has Polycystic Ovaries and Overactive Thyroid (been tested for the thryoid and its fine) and also type 2 diabetes. She recommended I do more testing about the blood sugar and ovaries since I have acne, hair growth in yuck places.

Oh and did I mention I tend to gain 20-30 lbs in the winter?

Anmity, have you asked your doc about this? I hesitated talking to my doc about my sleep issues for a long time, thinking I wouldn't be taken seriously, but I am very glad I brought it up, and the doc was very understanding.

Do you have another diagnosis that excessive sleep could be a party to? Because depression and bi-polar can at times go hand in hand with both hypersomnia and insomnia.

I have the opposite problem of never sleeping so I am not the best resource...

The only thing I can think of medcine wise might be some kind of stimulant (ritilan, adderall, etc).

Also - have you ever been tested for Sleep Apnea? something like RLS or sleep apnea can screw with the quality of your sleep so your body needs more to make up for it.

I did find some links about hypersomnia so I will pass those along to you

My doctor informed me that I may be sleeping so much because I have so much anxiety and it takes a big toll on my body and mind which makes me sleepy. I've spent another 2 days without napping. I worked overtime both days, but only a few extra hours. This negated that time of boredom before my boyfriend got home. And after the overtime, I take a Klonopin and relax and get ready for bedtime. It feels good to do the overtime because it makes me feel accomplished that I can do it, plus optimistic about my next paycheck.

I really think that our lifestyles have a lot to do with sleep. We need to work with our natural body rhythms to be able to wake and sleep at the right times.

Now, my meds screw me up, and i need about 10 hours of sleep (thank you Zyprexa).

I'd say look into sleep apnea, examine your meds iwth your pdoc, maybe even see your GP, and keep a sleep journal.
