Gay Marriage Ban Voted Down In Senate

Recommended Posts

Good.

although, apparently, the strategy is to keep building support & bringing it back up until it passes.......

This had absolutely nothing to do with legislation. It had everything to do with stirring up the conservative right wing to try to save the GOP from losing control of one or both houses of Contress in the fall election.

It's so cynical it makes me want to vomit.

Cynical is right. They don't want to actually pass the legislation any more than they want to ban abortion. Both issues are just tools the repugnican leadership uses to stir up fear and hatred in their base. It serves the dual purpose of getting the rank and file out to vote and obscuring the fact that most of said rank and file are voting against their own economic self interest. The corporate goons could give a shit less about social issues one way or the other, but it's in their political best interest to keep fanning the flames.

Yes, it makes me absolutely ill and furious!!!

Especially when I hear about the "homosexual lifestyle."

Give me a goddamn break! Is that the lifestyle of two of my good friends who have been together for almost twenty years, own a home in a nice suburb of L.A., both have professional jobs, are active in their community, adopted a child a few years ago, have him in the local soccer league, etc., etc.,; in other words middle class America. Oh, did I mention they're lesbians? Who gives a shit?

I can't wait to vote in November!

i made a point of watching american news today. it was cnn and it was all about "the war on terror", the "hero" news lady that got blown up, gay marriage, security, terrorism, security, terrorism, security, terrorism. danger, danger, danger.

holy shit.

no wonder americans carry so many guns. i'd be freaked too.

i don't want to attempt to portray canada as a place with all the answers cos it sure as HELL isn't. but the other day i helped a married lesbian couple buy a baby carrier. and i helped another married lesbian couple buy a tent for a trip to europe.

i don't think i'll be happy until a freak-ass, neo-conservative, republican, right-wing, narrow-minded, catholic, married, gay, news personality is bitching to her likewise male co-anchor about the government raising taxes and crippling big business.

but then again, i'll be pissed about them being narrow-minded.

grouse.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm only 20. That out of the way, the kids just a couple years younger than me...every new generation is making such huge strides that would be unthinkable to the people just 2, 5, or ten years older than them. I remind myself of that when I get pissed that I'm being treated with "respect and dignity" by listening to Congress talk about how I shouldn't be killed or beaten on the street anymore, but I shouldn't get real-people rights. I can fuck any guy in an ally, but if I want to make it legitimate somehow, that's somehow worse.
