Any Non-BP people taking Lamictal (lamotrigine)?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if there are others who are taking Lamictal that are just taking it for unipolar depression, and not for bipolar depression. I am also taking 20 mg of Lexapro a day, and increasing my Lamictal from 100 to 200 mg here soon. My pdoc gave me Lamictal to help with mood and motivation that Lexapro wasn't doing on its own. He didn't want to give me Wellbutrin because I had a small seizure detected during an EEG years ago (even though I have never experienced one consciously).

Me. I'm at 200 mg now titrating up. And I'm not even taking it as augmentation like you.

With TRD (resistant), nothing else works anyhow, so why bother?

I hope Lamictal works. It certainly isn't hurting. Behaviorists like countables, so I can positively say that the number of mornings I wake up and my first thought has to do with death/offing myself has declined from close to 90% to under 10%.

This is especially significant as (known to those of you following my unorthodox regime of stimulants and narcotics (prescribed), both have completely worn off by morning. Whereas I definitely feel worse by then, I feel "less worse" than I used to. In fact, I feel less worse, than I did when the Lamictal dose was lower!

I am unipolar (as far as I know - I have a bipolar father) and suffered from horrible depression for a year and a half. No AD did much for me (I went through more than I care to remember!), until Lamictal was added as an augmentation agent. I'm now on 300mg, and it seems to be doing the trick. I'm finally starting to feel good (ish) after many months of total misery.

So be optimistic - Lamictal could well do for you what it's done for me!

I've never been diagnosed as bipolar. Official DXs are MDD (treatment resistant) GAD and ADHD.

Started taking Lamictal a couple of months ago based on Crazymeds reviews and other research. I have been non-normal for so long and gone through so much to try to get my head together that I don't want to get my hopes up.

However, I have to say that I have felt much better than I can recall since adding Lamictal to my previous longtime meds of Effexor, Xanax and Adderall. Even at 25 mg I started feeling better. Due to rash issues, I'm back at only 5 mg right now, but I could swear even that amount makes me feel more efficacious, as Big Pharma would say.

Better as in, I finally have a grip on my moods. I'm getting stuff done. I'm able to control my obsessing about bad thoughts and focusing on good thoughts. As in, I can think straight.

Better enough that I am willing to do whatever won't kill me to give this med a fair trial. I've had a couple of rashes since starting, but my pdoc doesn't think they are the "bad rash" that can potentially be life threatening (don't freak--be aware of it, but it's also EXCEEDINGLY rare.)

Maybe I am bipolar. However, I'm more concerned with feeling better after decades of depression etc. than I am with correctly labeling whatever has been making me feel like swamp slime for much of my life.

I just hope this lasts and I can get the rash under control (I think I can.) If so, I hope you have similarly good fortune. Keep us posted!

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm on 150 effexor for depression and in November I began lamictal. After a nice titration, at 150 I was too "energized," so it's been 100 lamictal and the 150 effexor for a couple months. It's great. I was very bad off before the lamictal... hope it works for you... and I too felt a "lift" at just the 25 mg when I first took it!

Hooray!
